Matt Horwich to Step in for Falaniko Vitale Against Thales Leites in War on the Mainland Middleweight Title Fight

(Let me get this straight. I’m fighting Carrot Top?)

Falaniko Vitale has been forced off of the August 14 “War on the Mainland” card for unknown reasons and will be replaced by former IFL middleweight champion Matt Horwich (23-13-1) in a Powerhouse World Promotions (PWP) LLC 185-pound championship bout against former number one UFC middleweight contender Thales Leites (17-3-1).

“We’re excited to add Matt Horwich to our already stacked card,” PWP CEO Brian Manna said. “They are two of the best BJJ fighters in the world. Either one will make a great PWP middleweight champion.”

2-6 in his last eight outings, including losses to Dan Miller, Ricardo Almeida and Jason MacDonald, Horwich may not be the fighter most deserving of a title shot, but is likely being rewarded with a crack at the newly-created belt for stepping up to face Leites on less than two weeks notice.

The event, which will be broadcast live on pay-per-view from the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California will also feature two other title fights.

In  heavyweight championship action,  two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia meets former UFC and Strikeforce title challenger Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello in show’s the main event.

The co-main event will see onetime UFC light heavyweight Jason Lambert (25-11) take on former PRIDE and IFL standout and eight-time World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion Alan Goes (17-3) contend for the promotion’s 205-pound title.

The broadcast, which begins at 10 pm ET on Saturday, August 14, will be available in North America on cable and satellite Pay-Per-View via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network, as well as Viewer’s Choice, Bell TV and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. It will also be available in the United Kingdom via Primetime Live. The PPV card will also be streamed live on Internet PPV outside of the United States, Canada and United Kingdom by going to

Being champ of that league is akin to being voted the prettiest Denny's waitress.

Its funny how all these other promotions fight cards read as a who's who of UFC washouts. Who is buying these PPV's anyway?

This would have been a decent UFN card in 2006.

Thales is gonna make Matt Horwich look like Rocky Dennis when he... oh, wait, I forgot... Leites hit's like a girl.

He also flops on his back with his legs open like a girl.

He also pees sitting down. But that's not important. What IS important is this card actually going down. 'Cause IF it does, I'm there. Proximity rule 1A states, and I quote, "If it's within an hour driving distance, thou shall attendeth." Big IF, tho. Seems like these smaller events get cancelled left and right. Dana's prob'ly plotting some evil shit with Mini Me as I type.

I've met Allan Goes before, and even though he's a nice guy and i'd like to see him win; there's no way he's beating Lambert. Waaay too much ring rust, there.

Note to self: First step in running my b-grade UFC leftover fight promotion: establish champions. You can't do a thing unless you have champions! For my second show I will establish interim champions, just for insurance, in case my other champions get hurt or find a real job. In fact, I'll just put "Champions" in my acro-name so that everybody knows whoever fights for me is obviously a champion (probably x100). Maybe Champion Fighting Championships. Sounds very.. championish.

@ Il Guapone Are you sure it's a Mini-me or is it an evil Quatto? Lorenzoooo...start the reactor Lorenzooooooo!

I'm here live in bumfuck nowhere where Tim Silvia is fighting the champ in the championship match for the Champion of Champions Championship of the world. Tim, as a former champion how do you feel about coming off a pants-crapping loss and challenging the champion for the championship? *ahem* champion.

For a small promotion, this is a pretty good card. I love a good freakshow, and Headhunter-Maine-iac is as good as a freakshow can get without involving Kimbo.
  16. Dick_Gozenya Says:

It is certainly very champion. I wonder if any of these guys have trophy cases going all the way back to their pee-wee football and little league days? A shrine of glorification to their championship achievements: "... this is the second place medal I got for nearly winning the three-legged race in fourth grade... over here is my trophy for 10 and under butterfly 100m... this one is for "Most Improved" on my varsity volley-ball squad... that's my boy scout merit badge sash... that's my Champion Fighting Championships money-weight champion belt..."

What I don't get is why every tiny upstart has to call their belt "champion of the world" the world? really? I'm alright with calling it a championship but this boxing lingo has got to go.
