Matt Hughes Eyeing April Return

Matt Hughes may finally have a date for his next UFC bout, though he doesn’t have an official opponent just yet.  According to his blog, Hughes says he’ll likely be back in action on April 10, which would put him on the UFC 112 fight card.  He says he’ll tell fans "who and where" he’ll be fighting when it’s officially confirmed.  Renzo Gracie has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Hughes, though the Brazilian later shot down reports that the two would get it on as soon as February.  The mere fact that Hughes hasn’t publicly shot down the idea of facing Gracie, as he has with almost every other plausible suggestion offered to him, is somewhat encouraging.

In other news via Hughes’ blog, Robbie Lawler and his wife are expecting a baby boy in February.  Hughes acknowledged that the information wasn’t "quite public, but I’ve never been that guy to keep my mouth shut."  It’s probably best he went ahead and told us.  A quick glance at Robbie Lawler’s blog reveals that he’s written a grand total of twelve entries in a year and a half, and none since July.  And here I always just assumed that Lawler’s blog would be a steady stream of You Tube clips of kittens doing cute stuff.  Guess you never really know anyone as well as you think you do.

Isn't Favre still relevant and competitive against the other top players?

I love me some Matt Hughes.. but it's painfully obvious that he probably can't hang with the current top 10 ww's.. and has no business being in the cage with the top 5.

Hughes is the Brett Favre of MMA...... It's really that simple.

In a way, it's sad when former-champions known for dominating performances are trying to hold on to something that will never come back.

Hughes is a fighter, and age taking that away from him does suck - much like Shammy.

Matt Who's?

Yeah, he is a legend. People don't forget that. He dominated a weight class until he plateaued and other new-comers pushed past him.

Pair that with his bullshit attitude and general sense of being a dick and people have lost interest in this guy. Unless of course he's going to fight an AKA guy. His last couple of fights were less-than-stellar showings, even with a victory in there.

Matt's past success can be attributed to several inbreed generations in the Hillsboro Illinois area, especially with these farmer types, resulting in overly thick skulls hence the difficulty so many fighters have faced when trying to KO Hughes.

Like Tito he stays in shape just holding that "sphere" up.

One or two more wins and Hughes is back in title contention. He was literally destroying Alves until his knee gave out, and he almost had GSP tapping in there last fight. Mark my words he's just seconds away from greatness once again. A COUNTRY BOY CAN SURVIVE!

People here forget fast. Hughes is a legend.

Goog Says:
You'll all stand around and cheer for a Hank Williams Jr song at a tailgate party . . .

Yet all the geniuses here think a criminal thug like Rampage is hilarious and cool.

That's just the most painfully obvious points that are wrong in your post.

Speaking for myself, I don't like Hughes because he's a selfish dickhead. No one's denying his past accomplishments, but at this point he's largely irrelevant... a relic of the previous era of the game (much like Liddell) who can't hang with the big boys anymore. He's openly ducking fights with any of the current crop of contenders, and basically wants a couple squash matches with some other over-the-hill former big-name cans so that he can retire on some wins instead of 2 losses and a narrow decision. That's pretty lame in my book, and that's why I don't care if he ever comes back or not.

He's a Hall of Famer and I'll watch him until he's done.

He's a great fighter with a great record, yet he catches a world of shit on sites like this because... he likes to hunt? He lives on a farm? Who cares. He's a country boy. You'll all stand around and cheer for a Hank Williams Jr song at a tailgate party, but somehow Hughes is a dick for wearing camo. He's been one of the major players in putting this sport on the map and the "worst" he does is walk a line between confidence and arrogance in his interviews. Yet all the geniuses here think a criminal thug like Rampage is hilarious and cool.

Whatever. Hughes has done a lot for MMA and hasn't done anything to set it back or label himself a bad role model. And yes, of course, I do all kinds of things to his genitalia since I don't think he's boring or old.

Wonder who they're gonna get that won't utterly destroy him. Hughes can't hang with any legite WWs anymore.

Matt Hughes was actually thinking, "Robert was SOOOOO much hotter as Edward in the 1st Twilight. OMG, whoever says he was hotter in the 2nd movie is a dumb bitch!! Ohh Edward, you're so hot! Be mine 4eva!!!!!!"

I'd be more excited hearing that he's starting his own company of baked goods.

That face is exactly how I feel about Matt's return.
