Matt Hughes Will Still F*ck Up a Deer When He Needs To

(We haven't seen anything look this lifeless in Hughes' arms since the end of the second B.J. Penn fight. Hi-yo!)
Matt Hughes still hasn't said for sure what his future in the UFC will look like, opting instead to narrow down possible matchups through the process of elimination. But just because he hasn't been given anybody to ground-and-pound recently doesn't mean he's lost his taste for blood. Hughes posted pictures from his recent deer hunt on his blog, and also took time to congratulate HIT Squad product Brian Foster on his brutal TKO of Brock Larson:
Last Saturday was UFC 106, HIT Squad’s own Brian Foster fought a very tough Brock Larsen. I knew the match up was going to be tough, so we really put our time in with Brian at the gym. If you watch the fight, you will know that Brian did very well and almost made Brock look bad. Brock’s a great guy, I’ve trained with him a lot and I’m sure he’ll rebound from this.
Almost made him look bad is one way of putting it. Totally owned him is another. The dominating win for Foster was a great way to bounce back from his loss to Rick Story at UFC 103. And as you'll see after the jump, not only did he finish the fight in impressive fashion, he also stuck the landing on the celebratory backflip.

Is his rifle pointing like 2 inches away from his face??!? What a dumbass. Photographic proof of his newbness at the hunting game.
Fight Fan Says:
At least it's good for a brilliant title and caption.
Clyde Says:
Holy shit! He really did nail that backflip.
TrouserSnout Says:
I am still looking for that 10ft tall fence way back there in the background somewhere....
Dana Mother Fcu... Says:
What an amateur, you totally gotta go forced perspective in those types of situations.
Sabado Gigante Says:
I wish I could post pictures here... I took a pic of a vehicle that made me laugh and it was Matt Hughes related... Oh well
Bloodlust Says:
Yeah Foster looked really good against Larson, making him tap to strikes. And a great backflip to boot. Can't wait to see who he's matched up against next. By the way, that rifle is in the background and the barrel is pointed no where near Hughes.
Gogo Platypus Says:
I know Hughes probably finished that deer via gunshot, but I like to think he ran up on its carcass and gave it a good slam just to prove he's still got it.
tallkitchenbags Says:
take yourself out of the gene pool, mattyboy. aim that rifle...
Kimbos Bread Says:
If you look really carefully at that picture, you might spot the creature that actually serves a benifit to the habitat it serves.
Hamma Fist Elbo... Says:
I was kind of shocked at how shitty Larsen looked in that fight. My bow tie spun around on its own while my monocle hovered inches away from my face.
Ed M Says:
Foster definitely caught my attention in that fight. But as impressive as he was, Mike Goldberg's incompetent announcing was really the show-stopper. If you get access to the fight (Lowkick.com), listen to how Goldie and Joe Rogan are on completely different pages at 3:45 to go in the 2nd round. He also mixed up the Nog brothers, and couldn't identify who was going for the takedown in Saunders vs Davis. I know he's got history with the company, and I know he wasn't 100% healthy, but mistakes like those just say to me that you're not really a fan of MMA, and that you think that those of us who are aren't intelligent enough to notice. It also says to me that you feel you can skate with prewritten catchphrases and hide behind your color commentator's knowledge and enthusiasm. It's really an insult is what it is. The UFC should thank Goldberg for what he's done thus far, but it's time to move on to a more capable commentator. Bring in Bas already.
Kimbos Bread Says:
@ ED M
I agree on everything. Completely.
Bas would be a FUCKING AWESOME replacement for Goldberg. Switching Goldberg for Bas would eliminate the most undesirable component of watching these UFC events (Goldberg's lack of knowledge about the sport). Bas could do unforseen wonders for the UFC as Rogan's sidekick.
They can always keep Goldberg for the videos and the re-runs, but not for the live shows. He's just to painful to listen to.
abenormal Says:
That's awesome that he wears his camo to hunt deer. He should kick it up a notch and just wear a friggin deer skin suit and some antlers.
cagefightmon Says:
I find it odd to see knuckleheads posing next to animals they've easily killed with a rifle like it's some HUGE accomplishment. You, Matt, and all the other rednecked idiots . . . OUT OF THE GENE POOL!
Razzle Says:
I bet Matt put his penis in the deer's mouth.
Dyph Says:
I ACTUALLY registered to post on this article, which is sad considering it only features a fighter doing something other than fighting. Long time fan and reader of CP, but I am typically content just letting all the keyboard pros bicker about fighting without my personal input. That besides....
@cagefightmon
I entirely agree, but definitely want to elaborate. At the risk of writing an article I will keep this short. Besides to say that yes, he did shoot that deer with a rifle; and not just ANY rifle, but a scoped muzzle-load. I would personally like to introduce the entirety of the CP nation to the single tool ruining lives for legitimate outdoors and large game patrons. Consistently making tree stands unsafe from pick-up tail-gates and beer cooler carrying "hunters". I would love to see the side-arm he likely carries for double taps...just to tie and drain the beast after blog pics anyways.
Hughes needs to do two, count 'em TWO, things to ever entice my fanfare in the future. First being either buy a bow or stop posting stupid pics, and of course the second is to fight caliber opponents...I doubt likely I will be satisfied.
DaltonSwayze Says:
Dyph: I know the bow means you need to get a bit closer than a rifle, but it's not like a compound bow is this pure creation out of the stone ages. Hunting with a rifle is still legit, provided you do it right by scouting the land and respecting the game.
I have had my fill of road hunters, though
Dyph Says:
@DalronSwayze
I know what you mean, and it's true. Compound and crossbows take some sport out, but I luckily run pure, unadulterated, re-curve action with noting more than a woven string. Sure the easy kills can walk away, but the sport exists in a way that a 3" group @ 300 yard rifle will never replicate, and in my personal opinion; as both a hunter AND an MMA fan, there is nothing to be proud of killing whn you leave the house with a $1500 loader.

Quick edit; a typical muzzle party isn't scouting land so much as flushing trails with atvs. The idea that a guy like Hughes would have a Polaris 500 is not all that far fetched.
clutchy hopkins Says:
hunting is WACK
Clinch-Smash Says:
Some times it is just for the meat to, but not with a guy like Hughes. 2 week ago i shot a calf elk and i got 3 months of meat off her! Its not alway about sport sometime it's to survive, yet people never seem to understand that.
agentsmith Says:
I'm telling you guys, Hughes's next opponent is going to be Baroni. I'd lay money on it.
Kimbos Bread Says:
@ Clinch-Smash
Since when has the west been in such rough shape that anybody'd have to hunt in order to survive?
