(Lindland, weaseling his way out of a fight with the Grim Reaper)
UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen may believe he can talk his way into another battle with Anderson Silva, but he has no illusions that he’s already secured the rematch. While “The American Gangster” continues to call out the champion as often as possible, fellow Team Quest member Matt Lindland is piling the pressure on Silva.
Black House manager Ed Soares has made it clear in recent interviews that Chael has already had his shot at the belt and that it would be a shame to squander any of Anderson’s few remaining bouts. According to “The Law”, not only is Sonnen the number one contender, but it may take a contractual mandate to force Silva into that fight.
In an interview with MMAHQ.com, Lindland had this to say:
“Anderson will to find a way to weasel out of that fight. I don’t know what his contractual obligations are as far as who he has to fight as a champion but they’re already laying the ground work; I mean look at the article that came out this morning on Bloody Elbow.
His manager Ed Soares is already making excuses for Anderson to not take that fight so yeah I think they’re going to try to weasel out of it. I don’t know what his obligations are contractually to the UFC but his obligations to the fans are that he needs to take that fight.
Everyone of the fans know that Chael’s the number one contender and the guy that has a chance of beating him, can beat him and exposed his weaknesses in that fight. The fans want to see that fight and Anderson owes the fans that fight.”
While eliminating Sonnen and Belfort from the “The Spider’s” list of potential challengers, Soares doesn’t offer much in terms of opponents he deems worthy. He mentions the names GSP and Henderson, but GSP has challenges ahead of him in his own division and seems hesitant about the jump up in weight, and even if Henderson gets past Shogun he hasn’t exactly been active at Middleweight lately.
Is there any challenger that makes more sense than Sonnen at this point?

Much of what you say is fact, but the one thing Sonnen does excel at is hyping a fight, and that likely makes him one of Zuffa's favorite fighters. As far as I a concerned it's now turned into purely entertainment...and not ever going to be the raw sport it was a decade ago...not until some serious competing enterprise is established..

That's an interesting piece of intelligence I am going to file away over future bouts with Sonnen. Stann is built well, and is strong himself. Your friends comments carry much weight. I think we all have come across those few that have the ability to exhibit exceptional strength.

No doubt what you said is true, and most that don't compete just wouldn't know that...as the media distorts with intent.
Chael is a prick, but he's a tough fuck. A friend of mine who trains with Stann mentioned that Chael is deceiving with his strength. He's unfortunately strong as an ox, a reason why Silva had so many issues with Chale's take downs.
As pathetic of a human being Chael has proven time and time again to be, it seems Silva and his Choir of coaches are avoiding this fight for good reason.

I say that I would like to see Vitor fight him again because he is much better then that. Just like GSP was much better then Matt Serra when he lost to him his first bout. Now I know that there is quite the disparity of talent in the two bouts but hey, it's just my opinion.
Did you guys forget the front crane kick that Ko'd Vitor in the 1st round. Anyone who mentions Vitor as a contender should have their comment erased.
Silva is sort of a douche in that his performance depends on his opponnents standing on the outside waiting for him to kick their heads off. But I also think you should just factor in two things 1. Sonnen pissed hot. 2. Silva was not 100% for the fight. I know no one is 100% for a fight, but he looked sluggish, and in pain during the original fight. So I think for the second fight, Silva should get roided to the gills to balance out the advantage Sonnen had for the first go around. I will personally be laughing myself to death when Silva knocks Sonnens loud lower jaw out into the 5th row. Anyway, it is the only way to really make it fair.
All greats will try and protect their records when their careers seem to be winding down. Except Fedor couldn't resist punching cans until one subbed him. Silva's group is trying to avoid any risks like M-1 did with Fedor.
Vitor Belfort. I think the shoe would be on the others foot this time.

Sorry, Anderson has to lose eventually - he's not gonna retire with his belt. Chael is clearly the #1 contender, and everyone bitching about how he doesn't deserve a fight is just afraid (like Silva) of seeing a new MW champ. I've never seen this much hysteria over a rematch before.. Some people really want him to retire on top, but there aren't enough fucking Okamis or Maias in the division to pad Silva's record forever.
Sonnen could get tapped again, sure, but at least he isn't running away from this fight like a little bitch. It's vaguely reminiscent of Tito & Chuck
