You know, if James Irvin didn’t already exist, Mike Swick would be a solid front-runner for Most Cursed Fighter in MMA. Since his second-consecutive loss against Paulo Thiago last February, Swick has been completely out of action, nursing himself back to health following a stomach-related medical misdiagnosis then a back injury. ‘Quick’ was scheduled to take on newcomer Erick Silva on the prelims of UFC 134 — which would have ended an 18-month layoff — but has now withdrawn from that fight due to a torn MCL and ACL suffered in training.
No word yet on when Swick might be returning to action. The former TUF 1 castmember hasn’t tasted victory since his TKO of Ben Saunders, two years ago at UFC 99.
The UFC will announce a replacement opponent for Team Nogueira member Erick Silva (12-1 with 1 no-contest), who enters the UFC as the reigning welterweight champion of Jungle Fight. Silva last competed in October 2010, choking out Gil de Freitas and Francisco Ayon in a four-man tournament to claim the promotion’s 170-pound strap. According to Tatame, Silva will face Shooto Brazil champ and Nova Uniao product Luis “Beição” Ramos.
