Mirko Cro Cop Already Angling for a Shot at Brock Lesnar


(Look, he’s working his way up to doing it with a 500-pound man, okay? Baby steps.)

We can now count Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic as a member of the "Brock Haters Club" that already includes Mike Swick, Logan Stanton, and Stephen Colbert. As the UFC heavyweight (currently, but don’t jinx it) said during a recent interview:

"I must point out that his victory is a defeat for the sport as such. Don’t get me wrong, Lesnar is a fearsome and very dangerous opponent, but I am old school, I prefer skill and technique. This win was a defeat of martial skills. Much of what he achieved in the fight is a result of pure power… Of course, Lesnar has quality sparring partners, is an experienced wrestler and a man who learns very quickly. But he is yet to have a real struggle. He does not have many fights in his career and I would love to see how he would react to two or three good low kicks."



Filipovic is just saying, for the sake of argument, that it would be interesting to see how Brock reacts to a few good leg kicks, hypothetically, from someone who really knows how to deliver them, and we’re just talking here, but why couldn’t that person be a Croatian fighter and part-time actor? Personally, I’m not a fan of this particular line of criticism. If you can’t overcome size and power with skill and technique, then your skill and technique is lacking — and to suggest that wrestling doesn’t fall under the umbrella of "martial skills," and that Brock isn’t highly proficient in his particular martial art, means that your view of MMA is probably a bit too narrow. But if Cro Cop can beat up Junior Dos Santos at UFC 103, he may get a chance to tangle with Lesnar. So what would it be: Brock by smothering, or Mirko by head kick KO?

Mirko ain't exactly a well-rounded "martial artist" either... he's about as much a one-trick pony as Brock is. Mirko's trick is kickboxing, and Brock's is wrestling. The difference is, Brock has only been doing this for a couple years and is bound to evolve, while Mirko is all he's ever going to be.

I bet Mirko looks down on Brock for being a former pro wrestler, yet he's the one with a resume padded with cans who're wearing masks and/or 7-ft tall. That's what you call ironic.

I can't believe I'm defending Cock Chestner.

he has a better chance than anyone other than cain or carwin, you see the people lesnar gets? all has beens. even couture he has no future in HW divison.

all i can say is, just like kim couture, if he stuffs one take down brock is hurt. as for brushing off a leg kick from crocop? that like brushing off a snap from a broken crane cable. crocop cripples people with single kicks to the body. brock couldnt handle mir on the feet, crocop would mutilate brocks quad. it was hard for crocop to defend on from his back because he has never had to deal with elbows...i honestly dont think brock has anything for him that anyone else hasnt already brought.

as for the machida comment, thats some dumb shit. machida has always fought that way and BJ beat him normal scoring in thier fight..good thing he wasnt the fav in that fight or he would have actually won.

machidas lateral movement looks more spectacular when idiots run at him like zombies. hes not gonna manhandle a HW, and hes not gonna outstrike a k1 beast

Now that I think about it, I would love to see the UFC feed Cro Cunt to Lesnar. It would certainly accomplish a number of things. Most notably, it would build further credibility for Lesnar as the champion. Also, it would give a nice payback to Cro Cunt for all his recent bullshit. With Mirko's recent history, Lesnar would surely throw him around the ring like a Croatian rag doll.

And if Mirko is so concerned that Lesnar lacks technique, perhaps he can challenge Lesnar to a non-contact kata match. Fucking goof.

I am of the opinion that Brock is going to be the 1st person to kill someone in the cage, although it'd be an accident. If this fight ever happens, it has a great chance of happening.

Uhhh ya, he does have balls. Mirko's reign in PRIDE was one of the most prolific and well documented runs in MMA history. I understand your probably 3 maybe 4 years in to being a fan of MMA just do your homework before you post ludicracy.

Aside from a deviated septum and a lingering injuries not to mention the new experience of fighting in the cage all contributed to Mirko's quick first stint in the UFC. A fully MOTIVATED Mirko will be a very scary fight for Brock.

Wow, does this guy have some balls. Kongo and Gonzaga both beat the tar out of Cro Cop easily, and neither of those guys are very close to a shot at Lesnar after their recent losses. So yeah... way to call out someone you'll likely never face, puppy-chow.

open weight is bs - gracie took out a sumo wrestler - albeit a sumo wrestler with absolutely no experience whatsoever. I don't think Brock is unbeatable - Slyvia looked bigger than him. I think he's just a really good wrestler with great hip and head control on the ground that leads to those lunch box size hands reigning down death.

Shane Carwin or Cain really might be a good fight- need a solid wrestler to stuff takedown and OK standup - he really looked stunned by just a couple of Mir's punches, amirite? I think when you see his fights takedowns are the it factor- except the Couture factor- that was just meh

If sumhow Crocop can keep the fight standing i think he will no doubt out strike Lesnar but we all know lesnar will instantly go for the take down and do the lay on top hammer fist technique, hopefully Crocop can keep it standing.

And honestly, who f'ing cares what Logan Stanton thinks or says regarding MMA. She get's paid to look hot, that's it. Now shut your trap because no one cares to hear you talk. If we did, then the UFC would have Rogan prancing around with a Bud Light round number card and you'd be providing commentary next to Goldberg.
