Mir’s Fake Injuries vs. Nog’s Real Staph Infection

Leading up to UFC 92, you may have heard some rumors that Frank Mir was battling injuries while preparing for his fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. We didn’t put any effort into discussing it because hey, the dude was going to lose anyway, right? Turns out that’s exactly what Mir wanted you to think. As he explained on a recent installment of TAGG Radio, a little media misinformation goes a long way:

"Every fighter gets injured a lot during training camps. One thing I’ve learned not to do is – I don’t really give any validity to my injuries. Some of my injuries are fake. I’ve faked a few injuries in the past but not to pull out of fights or anything. It’s just there are a lot of rumors out there, and when I hear them, I help people out. … ‘Go tell people and put it on the Internet.’ That way when a real, legitimate injury goes through, people question whether I’m really hurt or not."

So apparently Mir was as healthy as he could have hoped to be, and certainly fought like he was in the best shape of his life. Big Nog, on the other hand, wasn’t as lucky. During an appearance on the Carmichael Dave show, Dana White let the cat out of the bag:

"Nogueira had some other problems too going into [UFC 92]. Nogueira had just gotten over a Staph infection and he had some other problems…If you’re a professional athlete, time is not good to you. Time catches us all.”

Sad but true. And Dana could be implying that Nog is suffering from other maladies that won’t clear up as easily as a staph infection. Unfortunately, there’s no cure for ten years of being punched in the head.

Okay, I checked my library [fights] and Torres IS lighter. He's just a li'l tiny badass. If he decides to get bigger then most of these guys are in trouble.[The lighter weights, before some smartass comments.]

I love how absolutely hurt and emotional all you Nog fans are when it comes to Mir, after all the trash talk and insults thrown towards Frank looks like he got the last laugh in the end. I personally love it because whenever an unbeatable Pride legend gets their ass kicked, it shows just how full of crap you Pride lovers are btw please keep crying it's great comedy.

Quick question: Where was Torres on the weight class lists? Is he a lighter weight? Oh, and if Mir is a douche for overstating his injuries, then so is every sports franchise, ever, in every sport that has ever existed. Injury updates are pretty much for gamblers.

@A Motherfucking Robot: It's not just based on losing one fight. He was slow against HH and just about got stopped. He had never been stopped before and he got stopped by Mir's striking. Mir has improved on his feet, but to be stopped by him after taking Fedor to decision twice? That is showing some wear in tear.

What the fuck, is everyone retarded. Nog is 32, typical athletes are at their peak performance between 30-33. the guy loses one fight and he's no good anymore? Mir is a good fighter, and he beat Nog cuz he is the better fighter not cus Nog's staff and shit.

Mir is definitely a douchebag but he does have skills that are obvious. I do not like the way Mir acts and I personally think Lesnar is going to stomp the shit out of him again. Look at their first fight, it was Brock who set himself up for Mir to do a heel hook, which I think he has learned from.


I just dont know if Mir is going to be able to handle Brock, although after his last performance with his standup I think he is going to do very well. One thing I noticed was Mir was doing a lot of jabs while slipping left/right. But if he gets caught by one of those hamhocks its totally over.


I love Big Nog a lot and I hope he returns. You could tell after the fight he was visably upset.. tear rolling down his face and all. I hope he returns.

Nog lost because he is getting older. Mir impressed but older fighters always bring the question of how old is too old. I will be looking forward to seeing Mir prove himself with the others coming up (i.e. lesnar, carwin, cain etc)
