MMA Gif Party: Jason MacDonald Breaks a Leg at UFC 113

(Props: WatchKalibRun)

It wasn’t shown on Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast, but Jason MacDonald‘s return to the Octagon at UFC 113 didn’t exactly go as planned. Midway through the first round of their prelim fight, John Salter scored a takedown against MacDonald, whose left leg snapped underneath him in horrifying, Joe Theismann-esque fashion. The result? A broken tibia and fibula, and a dislocated ankle. Get well soon, Jason. "The Athlete"’s overall UFC record dropped to 5-6 following the TKO loss via injury, while Salter picked up his first UFC win. And as you can see, he was pretty damn pleased with himself.

MacDonald wasn’t the only fighter who left Montreal busted up. Patrick Cote broke his right hand in his losing effort against Alan Belcher — a terribly unfortunate outcome for a guy who was already coming back from a year-and-a-half of injury inactivity.

MacDonald is going "look at my leg, holy shit, look at my fucking leg" and pointing, not tapping, frantically.

Regarding whether Salter knew that MacDonald was injured, he would have almost had to. You can hear a break like that, crowd or no crowd. If, for some reason the sound didn't get through to him, how about the way MacDonald acted when Salter took him down? He had his leg up in the air. He was making an effort to stay prone, not struggling for position. You can see that MacDonald is shouting something also, his mouth is about two inches away from Salter's ear. Salter knew, he just didn't care. The injury was ugly, but Salter's behavior was even uglier.

You bunch of queers wish you could win a fight in the ufc.John didnt know the guys leg was broke. He was excited for the win plain and simple.

Salter, is that you? Looks like you spent more time practicing your Chuck Liddel celebration, than you did blocking head kicks.
You're going to get squashed next bout, since we seen you get KO'd in your last fight.

he was obviously under the impression that it was "first takedown wins", right?

Ouch! Something just like that happened to me several years ago. Not much fun. Yea, the other guys a douche for celebrating like a chimp on crack.

@Almost North

*thumbs up*

The comment on Shane Carwin training by doing calculus made me laugh.

Salter probably didn't realize the extent of the injury... if he did then that was certainly a very dick move to celebrate like that.

I was at UFC 113 and watching this asshole parade around for a solid minute was ridiculous. Not only did Salter jump around like he just won via anything convincing, he actually went over to JMac to see if he was ok, paused and continued celebrating...what a dick. And the celebration dragged on, lasted longer than the fight. Salter looked real nervous during his walk-in tho and that was probably the best thing he could have asked for. They replayed JMac's foot breaking underneath him up close too several times and it looks BAD. Broken in a few places bad. The medics came out with a stretcher but JMac wouldn't use it and walked/hobbled out with the help of his cornermen. Got a good cheer from the crowd.

We all know Shane Carwin trains exclusively by doing calculus and eating dead cow, I'm sure he could spare a minute or two.
Your Dumb- May 10, 2010 at 7:58 am
Luckily for Salter, Shane Carwin is too busy training for his fight with Lesnar to be able to provide him his lecture on celebrating a freak injury.

All that goes through my head is one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong.

Props to McDonald, it takes a tough bastard to casually point out to the ref that your leg is obliterated.
Almost North- May 10, 2010 at 7:49 am
Ole Salty there also does that dance whenever people slip on the ice in his driveway. Then he adds another win to his record on Myspace.
ReX13- May 10, 2010 at 7:43 am
^ Yeah, nice dick move there, Salter.
GUI-uh-TEEN- May 10, 2010 at 7:42 am
I like MacDonald. He looks surprisingly calm and collected dispute his leg being held together by soft tissue.

I don't think you should ever get repaired to be the same as you were when you were broken. Case in point, Jason MacDonald should get a titanium computer controlled leg in place of his feeble human original leg. It could have interchangeable 'feet' that could be changed similar to shoes. I, for one, would encourage him to get one with tank treads...
Almost North- May 10, 2010 at 7:37 am
I love how this punk celebrates like his plan the whole time was to have MacDonald break his leg in a freak accident.
