MMA GIF Party: TUF 12 Finale Edition

(Props: ‘caposa’ on the UG)

Today’s GIF party features a couple of animated highlights from the TUF 12 Finale‘s unaired prelims, as well as the Spike broadcast. First up, the night’s only knockout — Pablo Garza’s flying-knee-KO of Fredson Paixao, which came just 51 seconds into round one and scored Garza a $30,000 Knockout of the Night bonus. As if the KO wasn’t impressive enough, check out Steve Mazzagatti flying in from 15 feet away to tackle Garza before he makes Paixao’s concussion any worse than it needs to be.

After the jump: The "Pace choke," the McKenzitine, and the stunned expessions following Phan vs. Garcia.

Of the two submissions on the undercard, Nick Pace’s third round triangle/guillotine/WTF? submission of Will Campuzano was the more creative by far. Unfortunately, Pace missed his bantamweight limit by three pounds, and no additional bonus money was given to him out of spite. Instead, the $30,000 Submission of the Night bump went to Cody McKenzie, who represented the redneck-hillbilly-ex-gangster-ex-drug-addict MMA scene in impressive fashion, at the expense of Aaron Wilkinson’s jaw.

And finally, the bit of physical comedy that ensued after Leonard Garcia was announced the winner of his fight against Nam Phan. Greg Jackson can’t even hide his shock, while Rogan and Garcia trade "whaddya gonna do?" shrugs. Meanwhile, Phan wanders around the cage like an M-80 just went off in his hand. Both Garcia and Phan picked up $30,000 Fight of the Night bonuses for their performances.

And after all that, we still haven’t mentioned three fights that also took place on the TUF 12 Finale prelims. They were:

– Dave Branch def. Rich Attonito via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
– Kyle Watson def. Sako Chivitchian via unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28)
– Ian Loveland def. Tyler Toner via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28)

I believe Clay broke Anjos's jaw with his shoulder on the way down from the slam.
WrenJoRo- December 7, 2010 at 2:45 am
Didn't Clay Guida kinda do the same thing to Rafael Dos Anjos' jaw as Mckenzie did to Wilkinson?
smiledriver- December 7, 2010 at 1:20 am
So I guess I'll ask...Is the jacking the jaw back like that "small joint manipulation?"

'cause I though that was illegal.

On the issue of technique nomenclature and Thomas Rios value as a human being, I support Joe "faggot" Rogan.

Though they are separate issues, I do my thinking emotionally, and using the word faggot is a monster-truck-sized blow to those pussy liberal things making me look ignant.

Yeah, M80 landed pretty hard. Cheers CP.

I've been digging the epic Mazzi dive since I first saw it. Leaving that flying knee and that dive off the broadcast? Criminal.

The Pace choke is slick.

Sudos >>  Man, that is not what i'm seeing here.  It looks like Pace's right arm is doing the compression of the carotids on both sides, especially once he has the gable grip there at the end.  The leg draped over the neck doesn't look like it ever gets close to the action.  And i still say English tapped because McKenzie was hurting his face/neck/maxio-mandibular area a whole bunch.

You guys calling a Brazillian kick choke the question mark kick choke is Parthenon level stupidity.

The Alaskan Rape Choke

Clearly the judges weren't fans of masturbation.
Dagnut- December 6, 2010 at 3:12 pm
Why was Mazzagati so far away from the action in the first place?
Kimbos Bread- December 6, 2010 at 3:00 pm
Done. Question mark kick choke it is.
Sudos KFC- December 6, 2010 at 2:53 pm
Huh you know what? I actually like "reverse peruvian" it slips off the tounge alot better than "no arm triangle variation" :)
RwilsonR- December 6, 2010 at 2:41 pm
@ sudos - sorry, poor wording on my part. I meant the pace choke looked like a reverse of the peruvian necktie, similar to if you applied it from the bottom. What I should have said is it looked like a reverse of the one CB pulled off, not that CB has done a reverse peruvian necktie. I worded it badly.

Mazzagatti finally does something right.
hotsaucemonster- December 6, 2010 at 2:13 pm
after that amazing takedown in the first round judges awarded mazzagatti a unanimous decision
Sudos KFC- December 6, 2010 at 2:12 pm
and when has cb done a "reverse" peruvian? The only one I have seen him pull off was against jesse taylor and that was a standard one. Would love to get a video of that!
Sudos KFC- December 6, 2010 at 2:09 pm
@ rex

You use your leg to cut off the artery on one side and use your own arm for the other side. your arms never go around the front of the throat like a guillotine but instead you use your far side arm (since it replicates the angle that their arm would be in if it was a traditional triangle choke) to squeeze off the artery on the otherside. This is for when people try the double underhook pass and dont leave 1 of their arms in thus making a traditional triangle choke impossible.

and as far as the "mckenzie-tine" just look up "prayer choke" its the same thing, and the reason its not a crank is that the whole purpose of getting the neck all the way into the crook of your arm is so you can "scissor" both sides of their neck and cut off both arteries at once. that is why people go out so fast in it. The one above is not a perfect example of it, its a bit "expediated" due to the fast paced nature of mma.

V for Vendetta choke...submission of the night!!!!
ReX13- December 6, 2010 at 2:00 pm
RwR settled it, ladies.  It's the question mark kick choke.+1
Clyde- December 6, 2010 at 1:56 pm
In the last two events we've been introduced to the Mr.Wonderful, the Pace choke and the Mackenzitine. This could the dawn of a golden age in sweet new submissions.

BTW, the Mackenzitine is part crank, part choke and I propose that it shall henceforth be known as a Mackenzitine croke.
ashkenaziTROLL- December 6, 2010 at 1:55 pm
that's what phan gets for cruising in the 3rd .. pride rules
RwilsonR- December 6, 2010 at 1:44 pm
Watching Mazagatti fly in to shoulder check Garza was awesome! Makes me have newfound respect for porn-stache Steve.

@ Rex - It looks like that Pace choke is also a little similar to a reverse Peruvian Necktie that CB Dollaway likes to pull off, except this one from the bottom. Although, Tomas Rios thinks we are all idiots, since it is obviously a question mark kick.
El Famous Burrito- December 6, 2010 at 1:38 pm
That 10 seconds of GIFs was better than the entire 3-hour broadcast.

I liked Joe's on-air rant, the McKenzitine and....that was about it.
