NYDailyNews.com breaks the unfortunate turn of events:
ALBANY – The push to legalize ultimate fighting in New York is on the ropes. Assembly Democrats stripped approval for the wildly popular violent sport from a budget bill that lawmakers will take up as soon as today.
Gov. Paterson sought to legalize mixed martial arts, saying fights could pull in more than $2 million in tax revenue for the cash-strapped state.
"The majority of voices who spoke about this issue in our conference were not supportive of approving it as part of the budget," said Assemblyman Steven Englebright (D-L.I.), a fight fan. Englebright said it’s a long shot the Assembly will revisit the issue. The state Senate has already approved the sport.
Though we were feeling optimistic after bill S 2165 passed the Senate, the lazy fucks in the Assembly let it stall out, which meant that Paterson’s crafty move of including MMA in his 2010 budget plan was the sport’s last real hope of getting legalized in New York this year. As a New Yorker, it sickens me that our representatives would jump over millions of dollars during a time of desperate financial crisis, in order to protect the delicate sensibilities of their misinformed constituents. These are the same politicians who have no problem stranding commuters with transit cuts — yet they’ll turn down the revenue from a sport that’s beloved and practiced by so many New Yorkers. Screw this, I’m moving to New Jersey.
[Ed. note: I would never actually move to New Jersey.]

comments1) make it known to the elected official that you have taken note of their actions,
2) you do not support their voting record,
3)you will make a point of NOT voting for them, AND
4) you will do whatever it takes to make sure that one and all know that they should not be re-elected.
This is hitting them where it counts. Civility and diplomacy must be observed, and if you doubt the efficacy of such actions, remember that if it were not for social networking, Obama would not have beaten the holy fuck out of Old Man Potter McCain and his bus station skank. Remind the elected officials in question of that fact as well. Remember, Potato Nation - we are strong, divergent, and often at each others' throats, but we are united by a love of MMA. It's goddamned time we reminded our elected officials of that.
And for the record, I have nothing against Jews so don't pull the anti -Semite card on me. Too convenient and overused IMO
"ALL" Bankers on the other hand,......should be put in jail.
Yes, Ballkick, this is as oppossed to all of the honest politicians in every other country on Earth who managed to make every one of their promises, even the ones which contradict other ones, come true. It is obviously only in America that politicians are corrupt, and I'm positive we can pinpoint it all on Obama/Palin/the Jews/Whoever else we want to blame today.
For my fellow NYers, here's some food for thought for that unsettled rage building up in your guts after this bullshit decision:

Go ahead, go off on your local state representative and let them know how full of douchebaggery their actions are & that you will not be silenced; pee on their dogs' legs, run a train on their daughters, tattoo "My Mom Was Here" on their penises (or "My Dad Was Here" for female reps), or *simply* find out the truth about them....just let your voices be heard! On the real, I'm getting so sick & tired of these bullshit politicians from my state.
Obama is the worst president in the entire history of your country.
The Sheeple of the US need to get their collective heads out of their ass and see what your government is doing to one of the greatest nations in the world.
I have a $50.00 Canadian dollar bill (don't worry its almost at par 1 US dollar=0.9488 Can) if even one of you can tell me "one" example of your current government keeping "one" of their election promises.
They are more worried about tee times than their own peoples hard times.
I"ll bet 100 on Harper to KO Obama in the octagon, First round,....but I want Winslow to be ref.
Yes, the problem with beginning a revolt on the internet always turns out the same way, one person finds a great porn site and it turns into a porn swap. Damn you Asa Akira for screwing up politics in America.
Normally I wouldn't care two shits about this but for the fact that Canadian politicians are so interdependent on our neighbors to the south, and will not legislating anything that the US have not approved.
Look for Ontario to follow suit and blindly, ignorantly. fall in line with whatever happens in NY state.
Politics in either country is not about the will of the people but rather how the politician can benefit monetarily or politically from any legislation put before them.
When/not if,.... the next American Revolution starts,.. all these shady, greedy, pilferers will be first to go to the gallows. And rightfully so.... and Canadians being the sheep we seem to be ,.....will of course follow suit.
And as fucked up as Gov. Jan "Cryptkeeper" Brewer is, she's still not as fucked up or as corrupt as Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
What disgusts me is that Strikeforce and even a sideshow penny ante outfit like Moosin will hold press conferences in NYC, but they can't hold sanctioned events in the city. How fucked up is that? Dana White squirts out more UFC events than a pregnant Duggar bitch squirts out rugrats, and if only a couple of those events were in NYC per year, how much dough would that raise? How much in ancillary money from tourism?
It's not a question of if it will happen, it's a question of when.

I wouldnt give up hope too soon. Word on the street is Paterson is now training with Steven Siegal and formulating a new strategy to get MMA legalized in NY.
I've got the title: Blind Man's Justice.
This Summer, justice is gonna kick your ass. With aikido.
Remind me to never vote for one of those ass holes.
I left NYC last year, and while I was hoping this would pass in NY and there would be a UFC event as MSG I am not surprised. This is the same Assembly that locked opposing parties out of the chambers so no one could work for a month last year. NY State Politics are the worst in the country.
Let's just say Fuck New York and be done with it.
Sincerly,
Stephen Abootman
