It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Chael Sonnen feels sympathy for Alistair Overeem, considering his own history with abnormally high testosterone levels. On last night’s installment of his weekly troll segment for UFC Tonight, Sonnen blasted MMA media for implying that the Reem tested positive for anything illegal:
“Congratulations, MMA media. Right when I think your incompetence cannot get to any higher level, the Alistair Overeem story comes out. From you kids on the interwebs, running your little dot-com’s from the couch in your mother’s basement, to you beneficiaries of Mark Cuban’s tax write-off, you’ve gone and screwed up the Alistair Overeem case beyond all belief. Is it repairable? I doubt it. If I’m a member of the media and someone tells me that Alistair Overeem failed a drug test, the very first thing I’m going to say is: ‘Really? What substance did he test positive for?’ You see, those basic questions are where the wheels begin to fall off the bus to this entire story.
Alistair Overeem did not test positive for anything. End of story. So why is his name getting drug through the mud? Why are they saying, ‘Well, he’s got an elevated T-to-E ratio.’ Ok, fair enough. Let’s say his T-to-E ratio is outside the norm. That’s not illegal. That’s outside the norm. That’s a red flag. That is a red flag, and Alistair will owe an explanation. If it’s not against the rules, why are we having this conversation? MMA Media: You failed.”
Sonnen’s Schiavello-esque argument prompted Kenny Florian to step in as the voice of reason:
“Has Overeem gotten fair shake by the media? Probably not. But if you have common sense, then you know something’s up. His T-to-E ratio is 14-to-1. The only way he got there is he’s probably taking something. But Chael’s making a case like a lawyer. In the end of the day, there will be a legal meeting to see if Overeem fights.”
Sonnen’s right to remind us all that Overeem didn’t test positive for steroids, but considering that the heavyweight contender doesn’t have a theraputic use exemption for testosterone and doesn’t plan on obtaining one, are we wrong to assume that Overeem screwed up in some way? Or, considering the tweet Sonnen sent out after the Overeem story broke, is Sonnen’s latest monologue just another ironic joke?

commentsIf for some reason the burden to prove an illegal substance does fall on the NSAC, and they do have to license Overeem, if I were the UFC I still wouldn't give him the title fight. He's obviously abusing something, and do they want to risk him possibly becoming champion and then popping positive for whatever that is once he has the belt?
This is basically Dana's way of trying to legitimize the failed test. He is using Chael, WHOM EVERY casual and a large percent of hardcore fans enjoy, as a pawn to justify Overeem fighting to the fans.
I can guarantee now that this fight will go down and I hope that if there is a big man in the sky he grants JDS the testosterone of 100 men and he smashes Overeem worse than any beatdown in the UFC ever before. F'n cheaters. F'n moneyhungry Dana White.
