More Counter-Programming Coming Elite XC’s Way

(Get ready for war, kind of.)

With Elite XC’s next CBS show planned for July 26, the UFC is once again putting on its counter-programming hat (which one assumes looks a lot like a viking helmet) to try and screw with their ratings. So what is it this time? Anderson Silva fighting a pack of wolves live on Spike TV? The debut of the long-awaited Chuck Liddell-Girl Scout Troop 104 sex tape?

Not quite. Try a rebroadcast of UFC 84: Ill Will, featuring B.J. Penn and Sean Sherk. Spike TV will be running it all night, beginning at 9 pm EST, to be preceded at 4 pm by a rebroadcast of the Silva vs. Irvin Fight Night from a week before, just in time to match main events with the Showtime portion of the Elite XC card, which begins at 8 pm.

Oh, the indignity.

Realistically, the UFC couldn’t be expected to do much more than this just one week after their frantically thrown together anti-Affliction show, but it’s still got to sting a bit to know the UFC thinks reruns are all it takes to draw attention away from your live event on network TV.

Five Ounces of Pain is reporting that Dana White has his own network deal close to finalized. While we’ve all heard this siren’s song before, this time there’s a time frame involved:

“We’re real close to a network,” said Dana White, “I’m going to say in three months.”

As for which network, the smart money’s on Fox, though we’ll believe it when we see it. We’ve been burned too many times before and we just don’t know if we can go through that hurt again.

I think Dana's smoke n mirrors are working really well if hes got you thinking 'how can they put a fight of that caliber on free tv?' Silva will win, and it will be all for not if he doesn't want to compete for the LHW title, or he loses and then everything is a bit tarnished(silva/MW title/ufc). This fight though interesting is only that it has no real meaning, and all i can see coming from it is harm in the long run.

I am embarrassed that Dana White is even trying to compete with this stupid shit.
I couldn't give 2 shakes at shit about Fedor, hes a coward, and a pussy. now cause hes fighting Tim "the big dumb lumbering ape faced idiot Silvia, this is suppose to show the world how good he is? pullleaaazzze.
This shows me that elizor XP or whatever these losers are ,are struggling, and can only pull this sorry match up outta there ass. so with a card full of UFC rejects, and wash outs they are gonna "destroy" ufc???? I gotta laugh, this trash heap company will be lucky if they have a business in a year.
And at the rate they are hemorrhaging blood(money), I think the plug will be pulled faster than a year.
Just cause a group of retarded teenagers are gonna spend their hard earned dope money on this shit don't make it viable. :)
I think it will funny as hell if I get to read later that tim mongoloid silvia has beaten "Faker" half to death, and hes hospitalized. I bet the Fedor dick-sucker will finally shut up..............OR at worse talk about how it was all fake, and set up, and theres now a conspiracy theory for this shithole as well.

IMHO, BJ Penn would get pwned by Urijah Faber... Hopefully that fight happens in the next couple of years.

@Dana White's Pasty Bald Bean

I think Dana is (rightfully) scared of Affliction. He is not, in any real way, threatened by Elite XC. He is putting on RERUNS. Nothing too impressive about reruns really.

Does anyone else think Dana looks like Bat Boy in that picture?
BIG CHRIS- July 8, 2008 at 6:20 pm
@Ryan B-Not that I am trying to defend the UFC or anything, but one of the most important fights in MMA history was free on Spike, and that was the LHW championship unification between Pride and UFC, Dan Henderson vs. Rampage....that was pretty important fight for all of MMA and it was free on spike.....

Fedor is not the best fighter on the planet, Neither is the is BJ PENN!!!!

Even though Elite XC doesn't have the best reputation right now,

The Affliction: Banned Catrd is the Best in MMA history, barr none!

The first commentor is right. Dana White and the UFC have never put on a free show with a fight of this caliber, eeeeeeverrrrrrrr. So why would he sell out now? Because he's a scared douche bag. If UFC had a Pay Per View the same night Affiction had a Pay Per View, UFC would get smizoked. I bet they'll still get smoked with their free show.

Dana is scared that Affliction will put the "Kim Couture Kibosh" on the UFC.
In the wise words of Moe Szyslak, "he ain't pretty no more".

The UFC's campaign of globalization and market dominance will ultimately fail and their reputation and fanbase will diminish because of it.

I hope it's not FOX Joe Buck would make a terrible MMA announcer.

Wow, good thinking Dana. It just shows that your scared as fuck. This screams panic for the UFC. It screams "there's other legit sanctions out there that will overtake us. We have to try to pull out the hardcore smoke and mirrors".

BTW Dana White, Anderson Silva isn't the best MMA fighter ever, it's Fedor. Sandman will prove that the same night Fedor will prove it.

FYI to all the fans... Dana White WILL be watching AFFLICTION in some back room at the ufc event, GUARANTEED. GIVE EM THOSE RATINGS, DANA, YOU DUMBASS.
