Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Most Injury-Riddled Card Ever?

(Duuuuuuuude.  No.  Photo courtesy of our friends at Fight! Magazine.)

In addition to the nauseating injuries to Corey Hill (whose broken leg is seen from a different angle above) and Razak Al-Hassan (who, let’s be honest, brought it on himself, even if Cantwell was a dick about it afterwards), UFC’s "Fight For The Troops" could go down as the Gettysburg of UFC cards due to the sheer number and gruesomeness of the injuries.  That is sadly ironic when you consider that F(2)T(2) was a benefit show for injured soldiers.

Obviously Yoshiyuki Yoshida needed medical attention after being knocked out by Josh Kosheck, though there’s no word yet on how he’s doing this morning.

CBS Sportsline reports that Jonathan Goulet was also taken to the hospital immediately after being knocked out by Mike Swick in order to undergo a brain scan.  He also may have torn his MCL when he crumpled up in an awkward position as a result of the blows, said his agent, Ken Pavia.

Then, of course, there’s Brandon Wolff, who received stitches for facial lacerations and definitely needed a series of rotating ice packs for that lump on his head.  Pavia, who is also his agent, in true Drew Rosenhaus fashion, said Wolff may have briefly lost vision in one eye early on in the fight after one of Saunders’ head kicks ended up sticking a toe in his eye.

Man, when the guy who gets out of there with only stitches, a messed up face, and an eyeball that’s been toe-poked is considered to be much, much better off than most of the other guys who suffered losses on the same card, you know it was a rough night.  Please UFC, for the sake of your fighters, no more benefit shows.  The roster just can’t take it.

when his ju-jitsu instructed talked to corey about using a rubber guard, this is not what he had in mind.

i'm a soldier at fort bragg, so my wife and i got free tickets to this event... when hill's leg broke, you could hear it... it was like a redwood snapping in 2. i don't know how the ref could have not known. and as for what saunders did to wolff's face!!! that was incredible and had nothing to do with a toe to the eye. wolff simply got destroyed and said that to not look quite so pathetic. i talked to saunders after the fight... he seemed kinda sad he didn't get to see wolff's face. said he was too busy throwin knees.

Poor Corey Hill!! I feel sorry for that guy because he's never going to be the same again. I don't think UFC should be showing that on the website either. Thats the last thing we need is more bad publicity. Oh and that ref should be shot, Corey was still getting hit after he fell to the ground. He was even trying to pull half guard! This is the same asshole ref that was saying "Fight! DO something!" during the Reese fight right? Fuck holding another event in that state again if it means having that guy ref.

Not impressed with any Japanese fighters? Check out Shinya Aoki or how about the Gracie Hunter Sakuraba.

I'm not impressed with the referees performance. He should have been able to spot that injury long before he did.. like say, when corey hill was crawling away from his opponent... it's ridiculous.

Why do we keep having to put up with the hype surrounding Jap fighters? I've yet to see one impress me..Yoshiyuki Yoshida's limp leg kicks and weak strikes...frankly it was dire
Anonymous- December 11, 2008 at 1:11 pm
This event was gross. One long evening of watching car wrecks ...
cr_trinity- December 11, 2008 at 12:59 pm
When's the event to help feed those bombed to the shithouse by your glorious troops, huh?
Kyle- December 11, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Hopefully you dont mean the Gettysburg of MMA in that it was the highwater mark and everything went downhill afterwards.
mma-pro- December 11, 2008 at 11:39 am
and al-hassan should have tapped, thats what happens when you try to be tough, shit gets broke
mma-pro- December 11, 2008 at 11:37 am
i personally dont like corey hill as a fighter, but no one deserves to go out like that. that break was nasty
armfarmer- December 11, 2008 at 11:18 am

There's a big difference. Cory's injury was accidental and we all went to see it out of curiousity and to find out exactly what happened, not to beat off to his agony. I don't enjoy watching people getting seriously injured that's not why I watch mma.

None of us broke Cory's leg, none of us are happy it happened (I would hope anyway), none of us "waited forever for that", and we didn't gloat about it... so how are we anything like cantwell?

Cantwell is a dick.
fly- December 11, 2008 at 10:55 am
Is it just me or was that bald headed ref terrible?
Bundy- December 11, 2008 at 10:39 am
So sick of people complaining about Cantwell. So, he broke some guys arm and is proud of it. When I watch fights, I like watching guys who want to hurt each other.

All of you complainers, went and watche Corey Hill break his leg, as soon as you heard about it. Why? Because you want to see someone break his leg. You are no better than Steve Cantwell.
JimmyOzone- December 11, 2008 at 10:33 am
wow cantwell made frankie mir seem humble and apologetic the way he reacted to breaking al-hassan's arm...i know he's fired up and hassan should have tapped for his own sake, but show some frickin class steve : (
portlandmma- December 11, 2008 at 10:10 am
Al-Hassan looked like was shocked when his arm snapped, what the hell did he think was going to happen? Apparently Cory Hill found out that being 6' 4'' 155 pounds has its disadvantages a.k.a. when you kick with tooth picks they can break.

PS- thoughts and prayers for the injured fighters. In all seriousness, not cool. Get well. And much love to the troops, God Bless.
