MMA Video Tribute: 9 ‘Falling Tree’ Knockouts

Must-See: DREAM Welterweight GP Highlight Reel, Anderson Silva Boxing at Wild Card Gym

(Props: spicadocious via Fightlinker)

This kickass highlight reel — which could also be titled "Rise of the Whitemare" — covers DREAM’s welterweight grand prix from earlier this year, in which Marius Zaromskis smashed his way to the top of an eight-man field that also included such notables as Hayato Sakurai, Shinya Aoki, and Andre Galvao. Highlights include Zaromskis’s fake-flying-knee superman punch at the 2:39 mark, and of course his knockout-of-the-year candidate against Jason High at the 4:19 mark. DREAM returns on October 8th with the semifinals and finals of its featherweight grand prix, the second round of the Super Hulk Tournament, and the lightweight title fight between Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki.

After the jump: Anderson Silva shows off his boxing skills against a local pugilist at Freddie Roach’s boxing club.

Couture Jardine Maia Soszynski Rosholt *Tuchscherer Russow Duffie Herman Munoz Dunham BTW, A. Silva wouldn't win against Maia or Hendo for that matter.

Lebans not going to lose against Rosholt. That dude never should have even been brought to the UFC.

Anderson didn't seem to be doing all that good against this guy. Was he just toying with him?
  5. 831 Son Says:

    Fri, 08/28/09 - 12:44

Yea the point was to spar, thats what anderson was doing (probably 60 %), and the other dude was going for KO's pretty much. Guaranteed toying a little bit with him. @Frank Mur- You're a fucking idiot.

wow that really shows you how much a small ring and big gloves limits the ability of anderson to be an effective striker, that guy covered up for almost all the shots and landed many hard clean shots on anderson. Put those two in small gloves with room to move in a big cage and obviously andersons mobility will help him alot more

Roy Jones is washed up.... and he would murder the spider in the boxing ring.

831 Son... both of them were going easy.... I wouldn't even say 60%... I'm not saying that guy could beat Silva... but he was NOT going for any kind of KO.

"Anderson didn't seem to be doing all that good against this guy. Was he just toying with him?" Did you notice that Anderson didn't seem to even break a sweat and the other guy seemed gassed. Definitely toying with him... you ever seen him spar with Nogiera?
  10. Jay Smith Says:

    Fri, 08/28/09 - 12:54

@ Frank Mur A. Silva has already beat Hendo. Where the hell have you been?
  11. 831 Son Says:

    Fri, 08/28/09 - 12:58

Joedirt, he was throwing those punches with alot of power, alot more than Anderson was throwing and the dude was torquing his hips gnarly like and throwing haymakers with alot of his shots which were clearly intended to rock and possibly ko Anderson.

Love the DREAM Grand Prix Highlight. Marius Zaromskis is fun to watch. Balls out. A win over Sakurai is a major accomplishment.

I agree that the other guy was definately going harder then Anderson Silva. 60% is probably right while the other guy was at like 85%. I though Anderson looked good against a guy who all he does is boxing.
  15. Disco-Platypus Says:

    Fri, 08/28/09 - 01:47

Some definite Anderson nut-huggery 'round these parts. I thought Anderson's boxing, while not pedestrian, was not "jedi-like" (as CP calls it). Sparring or not - and they were both going around 60%, nearest I can tell - this shows that Anderson had better stay in a cage. RJJ would crush Anderson's face and soul in a ring.

I love that beat in the gp high light vid. Might be a well known song but i never heard it. WHAT IS THAT SONG? Went perfect with that vid. Anyone know?
  17. scumbag Says:

    Fri, 08/28/09 - 02:08

Silva is clearly a better boxer than that guy. If you look at the date of the video it is nov of 08 right around the time he started taking on the lightheavys. silva is simply testing his range and tactics against a larger fighter.

I hope you put baby-powder on your face daily: rubbing it up against Anderson's balls that frequently can probably cause some chaffing.
  19. Joedirt Says:

831 Son, In all fairness.... although sometimes my opinion may not be agreed with... it is always HONEST and how I see it... and I have to say.... that you kinda got me. I didn't watch the entire video all the way through the first time. Near the end the other guy threw some harder punches, but still not KO attempts. I hate when guys online play the hero role with "I train in blah blah and I know shit".... but I can say that I am knowledgeable in boxing. Anderson would beat this guy on points in a real fight. He wouldn't dominate him. Anderson is more of a boxer while the other guy seems to be a puncher (but not a good one.) Anderson was sparring a "club" guy... NOT a good boxer. As good as Silva is... remember he has 2 pro boxing matches... both against nobodies.... 1 win, 1 loss. He's lucky to be average in the strictly boxing world. (not taking anything away from him, I don't want to start a boxing vs MMA fight... different sports) Here is his record. "insert w's here".boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=152826&cat=boxer

how embarassing for that guy. anderson was just playing around with him while he was trying to knock anderson out and barely landed a punch and when he did anderson just shook it off like it was nothing. he probably thought anderson was just some mma guy that couldn't box for shit and ends up getting tooled.

Silva was toying with that chump, would have been lights out for "hands down" had it been for real.

Come on guys...it's a sparring session! All this talk about going 60% or some other arbitrary percentage is ridiculous. Who knows what either guy was working on. What matters is that in a strictly boxing environment, Anderson looked like he belonged. Saying Roy Jones Jr would demolish him in a boxing match is as meaningless as saying that Anderson would demolish Jones in an MMA match. Of course! But put Roy Jones in a training/sparring session in an MMA gym and see if he would hold his own like Anderson. I doubt it. Instead of all this drivel about a sparring session, how about some love for Zaromskis? This dude is exciting to watch. He caught Jason High backing up with his hands down and put him to sleep...beautiful. Hand's up and chin down even when backing up would spare a lot of guys the indignity of having the ref put his latex and sweat laden fingers in your mouth...

That guy really did hit andy with some big shots that would have ko'd him had it not been for the gloves and helmet. but lets be honest..........a real fight.........every thing goes.......even in that small ring!.....with no gloves, no helmet, hahahahaha!!! Man.....! Andy would have that fight over and done with! with out taking one shot to the head! All with in about 5mins! (my guess would be flying knee to the chin or submission!)

Marius Zaromskis is awesome, he should try staying away from the flying ninja and backflip kicks though. Love the guy's intensity.
