Those were some bad bitches, I don't know what you clowns are talking about. Makes me want to train harder just so I don't run into one of them unprepared in a dark alley.

Anybody else notice the ref in the Shogun/ Machida fight kick Machida's lifeless skull as he jumped in to call off the fight? He sort of jumps down on one knee as Shogun is getting up and his toe clips him right behind the ear. It looks like it was hard enough to make his head jerk to the side.

The knockouts were awesome; the women's clip had its moments but wasn't all I hoped for. Thanks for showcasing them, CP.

What was the fight at 2:45 on the women's MMA highlight reel and was there a better angle on that armbar? Looked cool but it was obscured by the ref.
ytrebil- July 19, 2010 at 2:14 pm
Man, that solar plexus punch was so sweet!!!
ytrebil- July 19, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Seriously guys, as brutal as it looks, if you're fighting literally for your life, to put food on your table, something you've trained months for and you have everything riding on this fight as a professional, I'm sorry, but you're going to damned as hell make sure you've won!!!!

You know what Grinds My Gears: Evanesence.

Something about mixing Enya-like singing with wannabe metal that just makes for really lame music that is only fit for family fun entertainment, like another Spy Kids movie. It's like, "What are you? A Rocker? Cuz you need balls to rock, lady."

And that, America, is what Grinds My Gears.

Sweet vid, well done.

I realize its not easy going from guns ablazing to stopping the beatdown, but if you can't, its YOUR fault, not the dude layin stiff as a board on the mat. Sometimes the ref's were not in the position to stop additional punches, maybe a little purse deduction would help fighters think a little more clearly about whether or not to drop those extra 3-4 punches is really necessary, if the Ref was in a position to stop the needless punches but doesn't, then maybe he needs to lose a little cash as well. I say 1 free bee, and thats all...lol

@DangadaDang

Nope, Megamegu is a stone-cold FOX.

Though Kerry Vera will always hold a special place in my heart for a) being way too fucking adorable and b) beating the botox out of Kim Couture's face.

J Akuma- July 19, 2010 at 9:47 am
@ytrebil

Indeed. Often the thought, "Is he out?" never even crosses your mind.
DangadaDang- July 19, 2010 at 9:43 am
On another note, am I the only one here who thinks Megume Fujii is a sexy little number when she wants to be
NinJay- July 19, 2010 at 9:22 am
Nice video.

@Viva Hate

I didn't think it was too bad actually. The only one where I can really see it is at 2:50.
glassjawsh- July 19, 2010 at 9:19 am
observations: watching frank trigg get knocked out will never EVER get old...ever, im still not over manhoef losing to lawler like that....weak, following someone to the ground with punches after they are clearly ktfo just doesnt sit right with me (unless it's michael bisping) props to shogun and ryan bader and that one random asian for showing restraint, marlon sandro is very very good at knocking out asians in the wrong weight class
Abidon- July 19, 2010 at 9:05 am
Awesome vids, thanks CP

@DangadaDang,
Thank you for the cross check on the count. I should have said more deaths, every time someone else dies or is seriously injured it is a black eye for the sport and cannon fodder for the critics.

ytrebil- July 19, 2010 at 8:34 am
You have to remember guys, especially if you don’t compete in a combat sport, that when you have the adrenaline running through your bodies and are in ‘kill mode’ that it’s not incredibly easy to switch off. You’ve been slugging it out with someone who equally wants you to eat the mat, you catch him with something clean and your natural response is to follow it up for the ‘kill’.

It’s the referees job to make sure the opponent takes no unnecessary damage, not the fighters.
DangadaDang- July 19, 2010 at 8:30 am
@Viva

Someone did just die in MMA in their pro debut a few weeks ago. And yes, you're unnecessary shot counter was spot on.
Rampages Conscience- July 19, 2010 at 7:58 am
The music for that "greatest knockouts" video was epic. It got me motivated to go knock out my roommate.

Be right back...
Viva Hate- July 19, 2010 at 7:57 am
I was hoping to cross check with someone; my count was 8,134 completely unnecessary shots to opponents who were clearly out.

I like guys who keep fighting until they are stopped but there really is a line when a dude looks dead that you do not need to charge across the cage/ring and drop a ridiculous shot. The last thing MMA needs right now is someone being killed or put in a coma.
Jugger- July 19, 2010 at 7:55 am
That high kick at 3:39 was BRUTAL. I'm guessing that that was an M-1 Qualifier? Because I've never seen it before.
ytrebil- July 19, 2010 at 7:46 am
There were a couple of refs in there (WEC and Strikeforce I think) that did an awesome job in stepping in. Letting it go right to the wire and then lunging themselves to protect the fighters at the expense of possibly taking a blow themselves. Great reffing. Great video too.
