Must-See: Manny Paquiao vs. Ricky Hatton

All that hype, and it only came down to six minutes of utter domination. If you caught the light-welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton last night, you saw more proof that Pac-Man is one of the best boxers to have ever lived. The video is above; watch as Pacquiao opens with a 10-7 first round on the strength of two knockdowns, then delivers the finishing blow at the end of the second. Pac’s trainer Freddie Roach had predicted a third-round knockout via left hook, explaining later that Hatton tends to leave himself open when he throws his jab. Turns out, Pacquiao is even better than he thought. Could Money Mayweather be next?

anyone who thinks boxing is stupid and insults it probably just doesnt really appreciate martial arts in general and just hopped on the MMA bandwagon. and they probably assume that putting down boxing is a trait MMA people have.

im pretty sure any fighter, MMA or otherwise, who watched this would appreciate how well Manny fought. i mean, can you imagine GSP watching this n saying that it's boring?

i understand how some boxing matches can be boring, and that's just like MMA sometimes. and this one fight sure wasnt boring. so to all those people posting anonymously about comparing boxing to two fairies "hoping" (sic) around and pillow-sized gloves and all that shit, stop being damn posers. it's so freakin obvious that you pretend/force yourself to like MMA cos it's in the mainstream now.

Hmmm, my post didn't show up. that's weird. anyways, I think Pac Man is the best pound for pound boxer right now. i can't wait for him vs mayweather. hatton looked dazed and confused after this fight.

If I remember correctly, boxing is an element of MMA. You fucking dumb asshole.

Why all the haters? Any fan of martial arts should enjoy watching this fight. Striking at its finest. Pacman is freaking awesome. 6 titles in 6 different weight classes. Show some love for Manny...

I was one of those MMA fans that thought boxing is usually boring... but wow. Paquiao was as fluid and accurate as I've ever seen, and I was pretty excited the whole time. It still doesn't have the multi-dimensional aspect MMA does, but I've never seen an MMA fighter throw punches that well. I'd be really curious to see Anderson Silva or all those other MMA to boxing crossover hopefuls do half as well as everyone seems to think they will. Gorgeous fight.

Awesome fight. Thanks for the link! I love mma, but some fights are boring. Same as boxing. This fight rocked.

Destruction plain and simple. That is why your boxing coach is always yelling at you for " dropping that right when you throw the jab!"
Terjay- May 3, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Hatton thought this was a hugging competition or something. What the fuck?
gesus- May 3, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I don't see why people hate on boxing so much. If you like mma, why can't you enjoy the technique of boxing since boxing plays quite a role in the training for mma. Sure it can be more boring, but these guys try to perfect that aspect in the fight...and to me, it can be very entertaining to watch that. I agree that mma will continue to rise well above boxing in the future, but I guess I just feel I will keep respecting and enjoying the older sport just like I enjoy judo matches or muay thai matches.

Boxing is seriously lame. They move toward each other, throw a couple punches, clinch, stop while the ref separates them, repeat ad nauseam. Why would anybody want to watch twelve rounds of this crap?
DeuceOnYoFoHead- May 3, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Very well put Abnormal. Get this man a drink.
Bovice- May 3, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I'm not sure where you get your fight info or what fights you were watching, but Marquez never, "knocked manny the fuck out" as you say, or even knocked him down for that matter.

Manny knocked Marquez down three times in the first round of the first fight that ended in a draw. And it was later found that one of the judges admitted to an error on his scorecard for the first round that lead to that fight being called a draw. Without this error Manny would've won the decision

Then Marquez was knocked-down once in the third round of the second fight and that was what sealed the win for Manny in that close fight. For sure, they were extremely close fights, but it was these knock-downs that made the difference for Paquiao.

I would have loved to see a third match between them but Pac-man instead chose to move up to fight David Diaz at 135 and Marquez also moved up and challenged Joel Casamayor. (awesome fight, by the way)

No Doubt that Marquez is a monster, and i think Mayweather Jr. will definatly have his hands full especially after coming back from a long layoff. I don't think that Manny was really ducking him, but instead was looking to move up to the bigger pay days which he got fighting De La Hoya and Hatton.
