Nate Diaz Cites His Own Immaculate Face as Proof That He Beat Gray Maynard

(Via Nate Diaz’s Twitter)

Say you lost a decision in a close fight that you feel you deserved to win.  You really have only two possible ways to respond: 1) Shrug, say you did your best, and remind everyone that this is why you don’t leave it in the hands of the judges, or 2) make a video of yourself in the parking lot of a 24-Hour Fitness showing off the remarkable lack of facial damage that you sustained in the fight, proving unequivocally that you got straight-up screwed, homey.

If you know anything at all about Nate Diaz, you know which option he decided to go with.  Nate posted this video to his Twitter today, following an earlier message stating that he’s watched the fight three times since Monday and has come to the conclusion that he won — get this — all three rounds.  Added Diaz: "fuck the haters…"

MMA fans are no strangers to the ‘I don’t have a scratch on me’ defense following a decision loss.  Diaz isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last guy to suggest that lack of bruising is the most accurate indicator of victory.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way, and for good reason.  Just look at Nate’s brother.  If facial wounds were a sure sign that you’d just lost a fight, he’d have one of the worst records in the sport.

Aside from that, it was a close fight and Nate appeared to do more overall damage to Gray Maynard, even though he threw mainly arm punches and jabs while Maynard threw hooks and uppercuts like he was trying to knock the lisp out of Diaz’s mouth.  But all three rounds, Nate?  Even the second, in which Gray put you on the floor?  You’re starting to make us worry about what the drug test results are going to look like.

Like they say, marijuana is a gateway drug.  And once that gateway opens up peyote is sure to find its way in.

i like nick diaz, mostly. guy's got some talent, and he delivers the attitude well. nate on the other hand comes across like that stupid little doggie that's running circles around his big buddy spike on those old kibbles n' bits commercials.

maybe if nate stopped mean mugging all over the place and, i don't know, say, developed his skills to be more rounded, he'd be going places a little faster. at the rate he's going now, dude's gonna become irrelevant when several new fighters that nobody's ever heard of bring him down since their fight game is complete and not restricted to BJJ.

oh, and frdnlylion - nice work with the cyborg comparison. i agree that she would break him like a twig. and, possibly, pull her cock out and face fuck him right there in the octagon. now THAT'S a pay per view!

I like both guys, but the diaz brothers will always win the pre and post fight interview. I thought it was pretty close, maybe they should have a re-match and actually fight instead of 3 rounds of the chicken dance, we get guy can sub and the other guy can hit and both of them seemed a little too cautious.

Always up for Diaz-ness in and out of the cage but this fight with all respect was pretty bad, BJ would beat them both at the same time

If commentary sways judges, Shogun would have won all five rounds against Machida.

I agree with everything the Diaz brothers say and do and I probably always will.
They are both great to watch, seriously talented and I love their attitude.
I like Maynard but seriously, when the Diaz bros fight the interest level goes way up!

What a whiny bitch. I thought it was very obvious that he lost the fight. Close fight but no way would I give it to him.
kerouac- January 14, 2010 at 7:44 am
Note to Nate - stop taking punches from your opponent then giving him your "mean glare" to let everyone know they didnt hurt. You take too many punches, you lose the fight. It doesnt matter how tough you look when you take them - YOU'RE STILL GETTING HIT!!

Who said Peyote??
frndlylion- January 13, 2010 at 10:22 pm
This is what you get for repeatedly showing off biceps smaller than Cris Cyborg's. I think she could kick his ass too.

You watched yourself fight in a close fight and you thought you won? Well no shit. Whining is for bitches so don't leave it up to the judges next time.

"proving unequivocally that you got straight-up screwed, homey."

I love it when you channel the Diaz brothers. It's the funniest goddamn thing on this site and that's saying a lot.

Anyway, Nate has been screwed in a decision but that was the Guida fight, which he definitely won or was a draw at worst. The Maynard fight, not so much.

"MMA fans are no strangers to the 'I don't have a scratch on me' defense following a decision loss."
This generally happens when a fighter was dominated with wrestling or BJJ, Maynard did not do anything of the sort to Nate and the fight was standing up.
So in a stand up fight the face is a great indicator, Diaz is simply underlining the fact that he out striked Maynard, just like I thought, and that he did not take the brunt of the punishment in the fight. The "look at my face" is not an excuse in this case, simply a valid statement.
Hulk Smash- January 13, 2010 at 6:46 pm
both nate diaz and gray maynard are light years from having a valid title shot. the entire universe knows this. THEY know this. frankie edgar is a good call, but the muhfuh better be eating his wheaties all the way up to fight night, 'cause the magic 8-ball is saying "outcome does not look good"

@Iron Fist
rolling with his bro.....ah yes.

Nate Diaz is not Nick Diaz as we all saw, the Diaz boxing style works best when moving forward giving the shots a little more power. Nick does this often, stalks opponents with boxing wearing them down for a finish. I saw Nate implement the boxing off of the back foot too often in this fight and while I did not see compubox stats I would say Nate landed more punches in the fight, but again did not put them together the right way. I think the fight was a draw, moreover it was a loss for both guys, Maynard ain't ready for BJ and Diaz broke his "exciting fight streak"(sotn or fotn in five previous bouts).

skeletor- January 13, 2010 at 6:29 pm
He is right about the commentary. Not all of the time but most of the time the announcers do have a favorite and will completely downplay what one fighter is accomplishing in a fight. Frank Mir is the worst about it so much so that he ruins some fights for me.

All that said I can't remember if this was the case in the Maynard Diaz fight I'd have to rewatch it. And as bad as it sucks for the viewers sometimes, I'm pretty sure the judges can't hear Rogand and Goldie sack swinging on any one fighter. At least not enough for it to effect the outcome of the fight.
Phil Bologna- January 13, 2010 at 6:13 pm
It was a bs decision just like the Lawlor fight. Nate won rounds 1 and 3.
intercept440- January 13, 2010 at 5:57 pm
It wouldnt have mattered if Gray knocked him out on the very first punch, or if Nate did a flying Choade Traingle nuts to the chin submission..

Neither of them....... let me say it again to clarify .....NEITHER of them could even come close to beating Penn.

That was the worst fight i think i have ever so bad that i see them cutting it out of the DVD and substituting the horse face new ring girl on the screen for 15 minutes making her say bukkake over and over again

and yea i agree with steamer...he has definatly smoked himself into tard land

Yet another reason to finish a fight, and never leave it the jugdes hands, as we've learned from past 'bouts.
NateGetsIrate- January 13, 2010 at 5:04 pm
At least it will be very unlikely that he will get cut aftet this fight, considering his ufc record. Not even the Bully can say that if he loses his next fight.
Carl Sagan- January 13, 2010 at 5:01 pm
Shoulda subbed him, Nate!
ghostboner- January 13, 2010 at 5:01 pm
Big Jim? Did you mean slim jim? Cause that is not an mma judge, it is a processed meat snack.
KarmaAteMyCat- January 13, 2010 at 4:42 pm
I was gonna just type some big angry response but I figured I would just put it this way, Nate should have won and thats the facts of the situation common sense and effective judging would have come to that result but whatever as seen in recent history judges aren't very effective, they need to find Big Jim and ask him what effective judging is. Oh well continue on.
