New “Fedor Will Return” Ad Gets Specific

Fedor will return – Watch more free videos

Just a few weeks ago during the EliteXC on CBS broadcast Affliction promised us that Fedor would return. When and against who, that was left to the wondrous power of our imaginations. Now some of the specifics have been filled in with this new promotional video, which advertises a date (Jan. 24) and a firm opponent (Andrei Arlovski).

They appear to still be calling this event “Day of Reckoning,” just as they called it when it was supposed to in Las Vegas earlier this month. Given all the trouble they’ve been having, the title could turn out to be sadly appropriate. The official event website lists only Fedor and Arlovski on the fight card, but includes pictures of Vladimir Matyushenko, Josh Barnett, Renato Sobral, Matt Lindland, Vitor Belfort, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Chris Horodecki, and Jay Hieron. Not sure if that’s meant as implication that they’ll all be added to the card, or whether they just had some space to fill at the bottom of the page.

Now that they have an official date and a main event, we can probably expect them to announce something completely different next week.

I'd *love* to know how they're supposed to have Big Nog fighting for them on January 24 when he's

a) Fighting Frank Mir at UFC 92 on December 28 and
b) Will be given a shot at the HW title vs. the winner of Couture/Lesnar (assuming he beats Mir)

Yeah make sure ya promote the part-time fighter and not the Wolfman/Leonidas/Pitbull. Fedor is overrated and AA will prove it. Maybe after this fight Fedor will take a couple of years off then he can fight Kimbo before taking a couple more years off and eventually fighting Couture. Randy will just need a few more shots of Super Soldier formula.

"Is it just me, or did the Arlovski that fought 'Big Country' different from the one that beat up Rothwell? Arlovski DOMINATED Rothwell. He didn’t look as savage against Roy Nelson. As a matter of fact, there were a couple of times where Arlovski was in a little trouble.

I guess what I’m saying is that if the Arlovski that fought Nelson shows up, Fedor will crush him. If the Arlovski that fought Rothwell shows up, we’ll all be watching a great fight."

The reason Arlovski looked like a different fighter against Nelson was that Nelson had a completely different gameplan than Rothwell. Rothwell was only engaging Arlovski in the standup game (if I remember correctly), so Arlovski was free to work his hands without worrying about getting taken down. After watching Arlovski's brilliant display against Rothwell, Nelson knew he HAD to take Arlovski down and try to submit him and Arlovski knew that Nelson knew and he didn't want to get taken down. When one or both of the fighters don't want to engage their opponent in a particular way that often leads to a more conservative fight. On the other hand, Arlovski looked more aggressive than he did against Werdum, which was a similar stylistic clash.

The thing about Fedor is that it's hard to predict what his strategy will be. He's a very well-rounded fighter, especially for a heavyweight. On paper you would expect Fedor to try to take Arlovski down right away, but he chose to stand with Cro Cop when he was considered the premier heavyweight striker in MMA. I predict that Fedor will look to strike first and then go for the takedown if he gets in trouble. The question is can Arlovski avoid it because I don't see good things happening to him if he's on his back.

Dude, EXC shutting down is old news. That happened, like, yesterday. And no, Affliction will be presenting the bout. EXC was not going to be involved with it in the first place--it was just an ad buy.

Would be nice if these "break" videos work on the iPhone.

Arlovski has a questionable jaw. Fedor 1st round knock out.

Or worst we see the Arlovski vs Sylvia 3 fight where Arlovski scared of being knocked out wouldn't engage.

Finally a half decent opponent for the so called P4P best fighter in the world! while IMO he would still have to beat more then (one of my fav fighters in the PITBULL!!) if Fedor can decisvely take out Andrei i would give him a little bit more credit but i would still like to see him fight better fighters on a constant bases!
