Noons Beats Ass, Diaz Talks Trash at “Return of the King”

If you’re a fan of quick, one-sided demolitions, last night’s EliteXC: Return of the King card didn’t disappoint. In the main event, lightweight champ KJ Noons and top contender Yves Edwards sparred for the first thirty seconds of their bout before Noons caught Edwards with a jaw-punch that sent him to the mat. Noons leaped onto Edwards and started raining down blows like a man possessed by both Satan and PCP; the ref called it at the 48-second mark, and a dazed Edwards was left wondering what the hell had just happened.

Following the match, Nick Diaz — who weighed in a full nine pounds over his 160-pound limit for his earlier match against Mushin Corbbrey — stepped into the cage to confront the man who’d handed him his last loss at EliteXC: Renegade last November. In an apparent attempt to hype a re-match with Noons, Diaz (along with his brother Nate) mouthed off to Noons and stuck his middle fingers into the faces of Noons and his father. The Noonses lunged at the Diazes, but security intervened before things got out of hand. Amid a chorus of boos, Nick and Nate left the cage, their beloved middle fingers extended toward the crowd.

Diaz certainly had no reason to be cocky. Besides coming into the fight a full weight-class over Corbbrey (which Diaz is trying to blame on the ocean),
Diaz needed nearly all of the three scheduled rounds to put away an outmatched, outsized Corbbrey, which he finally did via strikes from the mount.

In other action, Murilo “Ninja” Rua made Tony Bonello pay for a seriously ill-advised guard-pull at the beginning of their match, dropping elbows and punches from the top until the fight was called, while Icon Sport middleweight champion Kala Kolohe Hose was quickly choked out in a non-title match by King of the Cage/Freestyle Cage Fighting vet Robert “Bubba” McDaniel. Full results are below, and a couple vids are after the jump, courtesy of MMAScraps.

Why is it that when Nick Diaz tried to wear down K.J. Noons by intercepting a lot of knees and fists with his head and got cut so bad in the process that the ring doctor put a stop to the fight that people like Demon Cobras get to use that as an excuse for their fighter? It's not like Nick was just standing around minding his own business and his face exploded. K.J. caught him fair and square and schooled him in that fight. Based on the behavior I've seen from Nick Diaz when things don't go his way I kind of wish they had let that fight go on for two more rounds. Serve him right. The Diaz brothers bring nothing but low class to MMA and the sooner they're history, the better. The re-match will happen I guess, Circus XC being what it is, but no way will slow hands, potty mouth Nick Diaz win. And what will the excuse be then? And will he act like a man and set a good example like the professional Mr. Yves Edwards did in defeat? No, he won't and when that happens remember that you heard it here first......You can't polish a turd!

Nick Diaz has just joined the ranks of the Fatty McFatFats. Peace be to you and your family Nick.

Does the antics of the Diaz Brothers shock anyone? I'll admit I do want to see a rematch of Diaz versus Noons. Heck, Hvae Nick DIaz fight in both the lightweight and welterweight divisions. That'll be fun to watch!

I wouldnt be suprised if EliteXC told the Diaz brothers to go out to the ring and do that. With the circus act that Elite is, be ready next time one of the Diaz brothers will come out next time with a chair midfight and start dropping elbows off the top of the cage. One more comparison between WWE and Elite.

how many of you hating on Diaz won 2 pro fights, and had your face surgically altered to make you a better fighter, ALL IN ONE MONTHS TIME!?!?......nobody?...... alright then shut the fuck up. Their fighters, guys talk shit and do way worse than flip each other off in almost every other sport, why are you bitching? "oh they need to honor and respect this sport." Its fighting, stop being women.

I just finished watching the replay of ELITE XC on The Fight Network. I would like to extend props to Yves Edwards who displayed the proper spirit in which MMA was intended to be held. The congratulatory embrace of the winner, the honest and gracious remarks in the post-fight interview. Thanks, Yves, for providing a role model for all MMA fighters to emulate in the future.

The Diaz brothers are a couple of un-educated idiots. There mom failed and they should be ashamed of themselves last night.

justme almost had the right logic. Just needed to alter one word in the third sentence. "stars" should be changed to "ASSHOLES".

Ah... see you all fail to realize the genius of the Diaz brothers. Nick had a horrible fight and it was suppose to be Noons night, but the attention is still on the Diaz. Win or Lose the Diaz brothers were still the stars of the show. I really don't care who you write for or the retard commentators have to say about the antics, Nick STOLE THE SHOW. I won't even get into the fact that the Noons attack Nick, because it would be over looked anyways. So to Mr LUCAS (FightJournal) just be cause you get to regurgitate your useless opinion, probably stolen from Goldberg, to the masses doesn't mean it's right. Instead take a step back and look at the whole picture.

"You know what I mean"

I find it funny that Noons asked his hometown crowd if Diaz deserved a shot, Noons called Crazy Horse a nobody... Noons and his family threw the first punches last night. Now who is arrogant and unprofessional? First of all he beat Diaz off a cut, Diaz has since won 3 figts, he wasn't overweight because it was an agreed upon catch weight fight, and most importantly he has a much more impressive record than Noons. Noons has no right to turn down a fight with Diaz, Noons is scared plain and simple. If anyone is a nobody it is Noons not Crazy Horse, CH knocked his bitch ass out in a punch and he calls him a nobody? Last night was a promotional ploy pitched by Gary Shaw that turned into Kj Noons and his father acting like retarded children. I can't wait for this rematch.

Lucas: As a person who still uses "the bird" almost daily on the freeway, I am interested to know what you started using when you retired the gesture. I am open to using something new.

Here is a picture of just how tough Nick Diaz really is.

That entire scene after the Noons/Edwards fight provides the perfect illustration of why the Diaz brothers are B-level fighters and always will be. It amazes me that Nick Diaz can barely beat Mike Aina (who the hell is that?), get his face rearranged by Noons, beat some nobody in Japan, fail to make weight by 9 pounds, not be able to put away someone a whole weight class below him, and then still think he deserves a title shot. I know, I know. The salt water got in Nick's mouth while he was swimming (no word yet on his buggy-board) so he had a tummy ache and couldn't cut any more weight. There's a reason the UFC dropped Nick - because he was a pain in the ass to work with and was unprofessional.

Dennis is right - everyone I've spoken to and everything I'v read feels the Diaz brothers need to come up with some more confrontation tools. The 1980's were awesome but I retired using "the bird" around the same time as my Reebok Pumps and slap-bracelets. But then again, I don't know why I'm complaining because when they open their mouths it's immediately like listening to special-ed students.
Demon Cobras- June 14, 2008 at 9:18 pm
A catch weight was agreed to far before the weigh ins and his opponent was paid heftly from Diaz personally, the guy fought at 170 about a month ago, technically since it was agreed upon far before the weigh ins Diaz didn't come in over weight. I'm sure Gary Shaw had no problems letting Diaz hop in the cage for the hype.
WWE fan draw- June 14, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Is anyone else disgusted with the WWE type antics that are happening in MMA. If MMA is going to be considered a real sport we have to take the wrestling portion out. I know an argument could be made that there was a lot of that stuff in Muhammed Ali's hayday but I don't think that was scripted by promoters, I don't think the same could be said in this case. Move over Elite XC and let the UFC do its job.
slappy- June 14, 2008 at 7:19 pm
the diaz bros give the sport a bad name. they should just shut the hell up and let their talent speak for them, instead they have to act like punks.
Cleanshirt- June 14, 2008 at 7:12 pm
LOL, look at that sucker punch on diaz at like 2:04 of the break video.

Don't be scared homie!
sol- June 14, 2008 at 6:59 pm
I think the Diaz brothers rule but I've got to say, how the fuck do you weigh in at 169 lbs. I mean seriously dude, wtf, weighing in at welterweight for a special weight class, at least Carano was only 4 lbs. over her special weight class
ruckus- June 14, 2008 at 6:20 pm
the diaz brothers are talented fighters with personality (bad/interesting/funny, take your pick)... hate them or love them, like other controversial but skilled athletes, they bring something to the sport.
