Note To Cecil Peoples: Urijah Faber’s Leg Disagrees With Your ‘Leg Kicks Don’t Win Fights’ Proclamation

(Urijah Faber’s Jose Aldo-inflicted case of elephantiasis of the leg.)

Remember  after the Machida-Shogun fight when UFC judge Cecil Peoples made the asinine comment that leg kicks don’t win fights?

Despite the fact last night that the fight between Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo went to a decision, it was obvious that "The California Kid" was done midway through the bout due to the damaged he sustained to his legs from the trauma inflicted by the feet and shins of the champion. In the final two frames of the bout, Faber could barely stand on his lead leg and had to be helped back to the stool between rounds.

The former 145-pound champ tweeted the above photo of his jacked-up limb this morning and mentioned that, instead of drowning his sorrows at an afterparty,  he spent the wee hours of the morning in a hyperbaric chamber in an attempt to reduce the swelling. Subsequent messages stated that Faber was having trouble walking today and would be spending most of the day alternating between icing his thigh and soaking in hot baths in an attempt to regain some of his mobility.

Take note,  Cecil Peoples.

Don’t get me wrong. I think that Aldo controlled every other area of the fight from start to finish, but I think what won Aldo the fight was his constant ruthless and calculated attack to Faber’s thigh. In doing so, he took Urijah out of his game and left him without a base from which to strike or shoot.

Considering how lopsided a victory it was, I was surprised to hear that two judges inexplicably scored the fight 49-45, meaning they must have given Faber either the first or last round, while scoring one frame 10-8 Aldo.

Re-watching the fight today and looking at Fight Metric stats, I don’t see how Faber stole a single round from the champ.

*Here’s another view of the carnage to Uriah’s kickstand.

My leg hurts just looking at this.

I know I'm a little late on this, and you probably don't give a damn, but I just wanted to point out that Cecil Peoples has never actually judged boxing, despite popular belief. He is a very highly ranked karate instructor and a kickboxing "expert", whatever that means. He always gets slammed for being a boxing judge in mma. In fairness to boxing, you should blame him for being a shitty MMA judge, because he's one of the most experienced (and worst) MMA judges in the world.

Jose Aldo is a man among boys in the 145 pound division. No one is close, not even Manny. Even at 23 years of age he looks older and more mature. His skills are insane I can't be the only one waiting for him to grow into 155 and possibly fight Ben Henderson, Frankie Edgar, or even B.J. How about Frankie coming down to 145 to fight him.

I done been corrected by the new guy.

Faber had NOTHING on Saturday. I was surprised.

Hey, remember when NewDad trolled the living shit out of Scott Coker and Gus Johnson? Good times...

I thought Aldo was good, but damn, Faber used to be just incredible, and he had a fantastic run, this has got to be tough for him, as with any previously dominant fighter. Its hard to watch someone fall , hell any fighter who has been great has to get beaten sometime! Faber was a favorite of mine, his attitude was always good win or lose. It was like when CHuck liddell started losing, tough to watch.

Holy smoke Faber is training with Schlong fei wong!!!!

Well least i can say, faber is tuff...Aldo is good :p
whitey- April 26, 2010 at 5:56 am
i like manny but aldo would stop him 1st round.

shogun should do the same thing he did last time. it's the judges who should score different imo.

Wow...I feel really bad for's one thing to get your ass whooped...maybe have a scar on your pretty butt-chinned face..but then get to go to the afterparty and still score a cali-skank. It's another thing to get your front leg kicked off so that you can hardly walk...and then the only thing being inserted in you in a Michael Jackson pod. It just goes to show that no matter what...everyone gets to prosper and suffer sometime in their lives. That being said....I really like Aldo...he has shown he can destrloy someone in seconds..or go the distance. Give him Manvel next....and we might really see what genocide is. Side note....Aldo supposedly can fight at 135lbs. and doesn't because his teammate Wagnney Fabiano dropped down to fight there. I think it's time to start ranking Aldo higher on the p4p lists.

@KidDinomite - Long Duck Dong! Bwa hahahahaha! You sir, have just revealed your vintage. Good one.

With the whole leg kicks don't finish fights/don't win championships/whateverthefuck, I'm totally dying to see how Shogun goes up against Machida this time around.
Mr_Misanthropy- April 26, 2010 at 1:12 am
... something like Manivel "the mandible genocide, bro" Gamburyan
Mr_Misanthropy- April 26, 2010 at 1:09 am
Cecil's absolutely correct, isn't he an old boxing ref? Leg kicks (in boxing where they are illegal and not thrown) don't finish fights. In wrestling leg-kicks don't finish fights, either, and they rarely seem to have much of an effect in Sumo.

I think Manny should change his name to Mandible.

Despite your lame rebuttal, Mike, I agree with Charming Charlie.

The first round was very close, but I gave it to Faber, scoring the match 49-44 for Aldo. How was Faber "outgrappled in every frame"?? There was very little grappling to speak of in any round. Faber was pretty aggressive in the first round, and I felt like Aldo was responding to him more than the other way around.

The first was hardly a decisive round for Faber, and I won't argue with people who scored it the other way, but IMO Aldo didn't begin to dictate until about halfway through the 2nd. Your scorn for people who didn't see the 1st the same way as you is not impressive. It was a close round, and I'm baffled that you think otherwise.

That said, I -- like you -- was thinking of Cecil Peoples and his "leg kicks obviously don't win fights" bit during the bout. Wonder how he scored it.

@Almost North
if you're talking about the chapelle skit it's "fuck yo couch, nigga!". still kinda funny though.
cecils_pupils- April 25, 2010 at 11:39 pm
At least Uriah isn't wearing the Faberkini...
Almost North- April 25, 2010 at 11:38 pm
Aldo to Faber "fuck your couch"

You walkin' over, but you limpin' back.
KidDinomite- April 25, 2010 at 9:51 pm
This is what happens when you have Long Duck Dong as your cornerman. Seriously, who the hell is that asian guy with the armbands and the douchey sunglasses?
whitey- April 25, 2010 at 8:24 pm

" Remember after the Machida-Shogun fight when UFC judge Cecil Peoples made the asinine comment that leg kicks don't win fights?"

No, I don't remember that - because it was a fake interview.
Truth2Pwr- April 25, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Jose Aldo weighs 145. Shogun weighs 205. If this is what a 145 lb dude kicking your leg can do in terms of damage, explain to me again Mr. Peoples how Machida's point karate "tag you're it" punches are supposed to count more than Machida's leg kicks?
Rayce.- April 25, 2010 at 6:52 pm
reason #345 Faber should have shot for take downs from the very start of the fight.
Yurko- April 25, 2010 at 6:48 pm
I think the judges should all have to experience an Anthony Hardonck leg kick before continuing to judge bouts. that will change their perspective permanently.
richorama- April 25, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Um, it was DFW that mentioned Brown's issues at a press conference. The contents of which are available to anyone so give them a read and you'll notice that I am paraphrasing, not giving my interpretation. This has nothing to do with you or I so you can drop the attitude. Stick to the facts, ok? Either way, i'm done with you.
Joedirt- April 25, 2010 at 6:10 pm
I'm not sticking up for Cecil... but he didn't say "Leg kicks don't hurt" cuz it sure looks like that leg hurts.
skeletor- April 25, 2010 at 6:01 pm
richorama, I understand that you are a little butthurt that Brown lost. Or that you really relate to not being able to man up and move on with your life after shit doesn't go your way. But an excuse is still an excuse and I'm sure he's really happy you're making them on his behalf. But standing up for him on an intenet forum probably still won't get yu that date you seem to be angling for.
