MMA Video Tribute: 9 ‘Falling Tree’ Knockouts

Oh, Yeah: Jackson vs. Jardine at UFC 96

This must have happened when I got up to take a piss after the Hathaway/Egan fight, but apparently it was announced during the UFC 93 broadcast that Keith Jardine and Quinton Jackson are fighting at UFC 96 (March 7th, Columbus). Not the most awesome main event, but that’s what they’re giving us. Maybe Rashad Evans isn’t quite ready for another fight ten weeks after his last one; maybe the UFC just wants a little more time to promote the next light-heavyweight title match; maybe Lyoto Machida‘s at the head of the line after all. Who knows. Will Jackson score a first-round KO, or will Jardine leg-kick his way to a decision? Oh, why can’t it be March 7th already?!?

Seriously? Rampage knocked out the guy who knocked out the guy he's about to fight next? How does this make sense at all...
  2. BJ "i'mma kill you" Penn Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 03:38

what a step back for rampage...maybe the UFC is scared that if they give rampage too much time off he'll go crazy again from energy drinks. Rashad Evans is safe from rampage for another 6 months i guess.

@ fedor: thats exactly what i thought And i know what you mean CP, why cant it be the 7th already!!! its my 21st birthday!!!!!!
  4. Farthammer Says:

I'd rather watch Coleman and Rua run a marathon than this fight.

This fine with me I was not looking forward to a Evans-Jackson fight at all, lets hope Jardine wins so we don't have to see Jackson-Evans and maybe Thiego Silva can get the 1st chance at Evans, after he destory the running man.

"Why can't it be March 7th already?" Aren't you overlooking a little epic superfight happening in a couple weeks?
  7. Tyler Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 04:06

The GSP/Penn fight wasn't epic the first time why would it be the 2nd time?
  8. Farthammer Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 04:13

BECAUSE DANA AND THE UFC SAY SO TYLER THATS WHY
  9. Knowitall Says:

ugh. Keith Jardine again?. I am very confused as to why the UFC just shows off 3-4 of the 10+ amazing fighters the 205 division has.
  10. Knowitall Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 04:16

I see GSP fucking Penn up, and then Dana White finally coming to his senses, overpaying both fighters and creating the Anderson Silva vs. GSP superfight we all want to see. MMMMMMMM.

joe silva, you messy naughty fuck! now i hope we get to see Machida vs Evans Thiago Silva vs Wand Rua vs. Liddell (he's the old men's slapper, isnt he?) Cane vs. Griffin and i'll also say: jackson first round KO over the ugly bald psycho.
  14. nippletwist Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 05:07

jardines overrated, this is stupid. theres too many talented guys in that division and rampage is too good to give him this matchup. this is just a waste. i dont think rashad can handle rampage, thiago, or lyoto. i think rampage should get a shot at the title first though because rampages last 4 fights were 1. lidell 2. henderson 3. griffin. 4. wandy. going 3 for 4 against those 4 guys consecutively is about as impressive as it gets, and the 1 he lost was really controversial and could have easily gone the other way. and he won 2 of them by knockout and dominated the other for 5 rounds. i dont see any reason rampage should not be next in line and him and rashad would be an exciting fight and they would have exactly the same amount of time off, and neither of them were damaged at all in their prior fights. its as god of a matchup as you can ask for. this is dissapointing.

Good call, very good call...Rampage needed one more, and the Dean of Mean is a great choice. Let's say, IF Jardine wins...he'd need one more before the title, perhaps Forrest when he comes back? Or, loser of Thiago/Lyoto. Rampage should win, but Jardine is damn tough and unpredictable. Very excited to see this one.
  18. Jaychron Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 06:13

if this fight goes anyway other than a 1st round (t)ko it should be considered a loss for Rampage.
  19. Word Says:

Jardine was suppose to get destroyed by Liddel but pulled out the W. He was supposed to get killed by Griffin but won by TKO. This may be then everyone thinks.
  20. matt Says:

This doesn't make sense. Why put the Techno Viking up against Rampage as the main event. I'm not sure if that and Carwin vs Gonzaga is enough to make me buy this ppv. Now if they have Jardine faced Pat Barry in a DDR dance off, I might change my mind
  24. WAR BONG Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 06:56

there will be a combined ugly of about 9.2 on the richter scale in the octagon during this fight...make that 9.6 if mazzagatti is the ref...jussayin.
  25. the glza Says:

rashad will destroy thiago, rua, jardine, wandy, and lyoto. he will rule the LHW until jackson gets another title shot. mark my words!
  26. RIfightfan Says:

I'm surprised by this matchup but I'm sure it will be an entertaining fight! I don't see Rampage losing this one but with that herky jerky style of Jardine, you never know. That being said I think Rampage KO's him in the first round. I wonder who get's Rasahad for the title? I can't see Dana White risking giving Lyoto a title shot...

  28. Anonymous Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 08:21

Yea, there's just no way Jardine has a chance in this one. No way. My only guess is that Dana is recently deciding against giving someone such a quick title shot just to have him loose it the next fight or two.

This brawl is being marketed to prison inmates, a small but valuable demographic of UFC viewers. Dana knows that nothin' sells PPVs better than a good race war. Jardine wins by leg kick, TKO Round 3. The whites get to pick the TV Station for the next hour. Rampage temporarily retires and starts his own late-night talk show. Sets up Jardine vs. Evans and both guys are touching their nipples. Greg Jackson, who publicly swore to never corner against a fighter from his own camp, corners Jardine. Prison rules clearly state that no white can corner a black against another white. Evans KTFO Jardine, Round 2. Blacks get to pick the TV station.

Kind of off topic but it's Muhammad Ali's birthday, guys. Give it up for the man who helped make prize-fighting what it has become today. I'd like to see Ali in his prime (with like 6 months of MMA training so he could defend takedowns and use his guard, etc.) against Jardine or Rampage. Or any of the LHWs or HWs in the UFC.

waste of rampages time, I am so looking forward to next sat atleast they put on a show with more than 2 fights. This was the first ppv that I hadn't bought or watched live in over 2 years and I am glad I missed it. Glad to see henderson one though joe silva wake the f up. All ufc cards should be as stacked as the one on dec. 27, even that card could have use 1 more good fight. The ufc has peaked in 2008 and will be on a slow decline in 2009, the tuf show has sucked for a few years now they are bullish cochsmokers with the way they treat the media f the ufc in 2009. hopefully those fffers wil wake up and start putting together fights we want to see. Dana makes fun of affliction for using names from the past. mark fricken coleman, its sad to see some of these undercard fights payouts $4000 as far as I'm conserned anything under $25,000 is a waste of someons time. as soon as silva retires the ufc is done.
  32. Bunk Says:

how does dana white expect the public to pay $49.95 to see a fighter who makes around 14K a fight headline a main event?
  33. Derekrva Says:

    Sat, 01/17/09 - 10:35

@kostellow (all the way up the page...not Rampage) I like what you are thinking, but Lidell is primed to fight sooner than later. Maybe switch that to Cane vs. Lidell instead of Rua. Though a Rua v Lidell fight would be nice. I wouldn't be surprised if they threw Cane vs Vera out there as well. Not excited about the Jardine vs. Jackson fight at all. Jardine struggles to put two victories back to back and doesn't fare well against aggressive strikers. Not saying he can't win but the odds are stacked against him. *Incoming Bad Joke* If it does turn out to be Thailgo Silva vs. Wandy Silva, you know someone in UFC's marketing team is gonna pitch it as The Brazilian Silva War. Hatcha cha cha cha!

Oh yeah? Cage Potato? What the fuck sort of response is that to this bullshit matchup? But knowing the UFCE, I can see Jardine miraculously winning this fight, even though it doesn't seem to be possible on paper. Hurry up and have Lyoto take the fucking belt, so it means something when him and Rampage fight for it at some point. And Vera too.

Give Rampage the fight he wants - Griffin. Why even have this putz Jardine hanging around? The only time his fights could be labelled exciting is when he is getting his ass kicked around by his opponent...... Jardine should not be able to fight until he rids himself of that pubic hair beard. No one can take him seriously while looking at that mug....

I'm jacked up for this one! I see this being the balls out get KTFO slugfest that Davis Lytle attempted at last night! While yea I kinda wanted to see Page vs Suga next I guess with all reality they HAVE to give Lyoto his shot right(If that is wut they're gonna do?) Does anyone else think If it is Lyoto, He might come out with a completely different game plan and just go balls out after Suga? I could some him completely flipping the script like that just to fuck with the Champ. Not saying i hope he wins but I get a sneaking suspicion something very weird could happen there

Jardine knows he isn't worth more that a BJ from your mom ($2) so he doesn't complain, why are you? Recent buzz is that Griffin will be back much sooner than thought........Try and keep up you cockgobbler.

makes sense, jardine gets knocked out by wandy in 46 secs, jackson knocks out wandy in 1:36 which would equal jardine getting knocked the fuck out in -23 seconds? naw i dont want to see this fight, but you could make an arguement that jackson lost to griffin and jardine knocked griffin out as well. the 205 lb divison is so close anyone can win on any night. but id much rather see jackson against evans and jardine against machida in a battle of who has the more awkward style of fighting
  49. Anonymous Says:

This fight makes no sense. But it looks like they are feeding Jardine to Rampage because Evans turned down a fight with Rampage at UFC 96. The UFC was trying to make the Rashad vs Rampage fight for UFC 96 but Rashad turned down the fight.
  50. TheRail1 Says:

    Sun, 01/18/09 - 04:32

This really isn't fair for rampage. Putting him in there with one Jackson camp guy is tough but even if he beats Jardine, the fight gives Jackson(coach) plenty of up close knowledge to put a game plan together for a Rashard/Rampage fight. Maybe Rampage isn't Dana's favorite fighter any more.

I am a fan of Keith Jardine, and apparently in the minority of people commentsing on CP. No one in the UFC fights tougher opponents and makes less money. He has fought Wanderlei Silva, Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, and Brandon Vera, winning three out of the four fights. He gives his all in every fight. I hope he beats Rampage and gets a raise from Dana.

if freaking houston alexander was able to get inside and crack the dean, than i dont see any reason why rampage wont. jardine/vera was a snooze fest. the dean has been on the wrong end of some highlight reel knockouts lately and it looks like you'll be able to add one more to that list after march 7th
  56. bonerjams 98 Says:

why would we want to watch Jardine get murdered, his worst fights are against aggressive strikers, wandy, houston, and now rampage. I'm calling one punch ko followed up by a pink slip from dana. If I was Jardine I would wear a diaper under my shorts.

  59. Jason Shackelford Says:

Jardine is like the Rodney Dangerfield of MMA. Everyone brings up the fact that Wanderlei Silva KO'd jardine and Jackson KO'd silva. Nobody brings up the fact that Jardine KO'd Griffin who beat Jackson in a decision. Griffin hurt Jackson bad with leg kicks and Jardine kicks a little harder than Griffin. Jardine gets no respect.
  60. The nigga Says:

    Thu, 02/05/09 - 01:18

yeah, Rampage is my favorite fighter, and I think he's the best light heavyweight in the world. That nigga should win this fight, but the lesson he needed to learn from Griffin, was not to be over confident in fights he know he should win. I think this will be the test for Rampage. If He stays humble, he wins, if he expects this fight to be easy, he loses. If he wins this one, I don't think you're gonna see rampage lose for a LONG time. His wrestling, Striking and Ju-Jitsu is pretty Nice,
  61. Anonymous Says:

    Fri, 03/06/09 - 09:50

I have to agree with Shackelford on this. Jardine has fought some of the toughest fighters in the division and came out on top. True he lost to Houston, but was winning the fight until he got overconfident and underestimated Houstons punching power. As far as losing to Silva, he got caught plain and simple. Prediction on his fight with Rampage *Rampage will NOT be able to time Jardines jerky style, and therefore not be able to connect with any powerful punches. *As usual Rampage will hang his front leg out WAY too far, and will eat at least a dozen, probably more, HARD leg kicks *Jardine will eek out a decision win over Rampage, and then will fight the winner of the Liddel Machida fight. Winner of that gets a title shot at UFC 100 this summer.
