Oh Yeah, Jon Fitch is on the UFC 94 Undercard

Watch Jon Fitch On His UFC 94 Bout on

This video from MMA Fix relates some of Jon Fitch’s experience on "Mythbusters" and his work on a documentary about his preparation for Georges St. Pierre, but what’s interesting is when the talk turns to Fitch’s spot on the dark portion of UFC 94 for his bout with Akihiro Gono.

Naturally, he plays it down, says he’s only thinking about the fight and doesn’t harbor any ill feelings towards Dana White for the video game licensing debacle and this ensuing punishment.  You know, all the things he really has to say in this situation.  But we aren’t buying it.

No matter what he says, Fitch has to realize how absurd it is for him to be on the undercard here.  He was a title contender a few months back, and now he’s pushed to the untelevised portion of the event while Jon Jones-Stephan Bonnar makes the broadcast.  It’s insanity.  What’s more, it’s childish.  Didn’t the UFC get the point across when they fired him for a day?

We’re hoping that this is just holdover anger from Dana White that has dissipated by now, and that after Lyoto Machida surprises everyone with a twenty-second knockout victory they’ll use some of that extra time to show Fitch-Gono.

Programming Reminder: The final episode of “UFC Primetime” airs tonight, so set your DVRs, tell your girlfriend you won’t make it over to watch “Top Chef," do whatever you gotta do.

Dana has been generally placing one quality fight (or better than one/a few of the main card fights) on the undercard for several reasons.
1-to have a quality reason to fill the seats early at live events
2-to have a fight to broadcast on the next day to promote the website.
3-to use the PPV spots to build up fighters making a run/return AKA Bonner (1/2 of the reason the UFC is where its at today!)
4-There are only so many spots on the PPV card. The UFC has how many fighters under contract?
5-Why would the UFC waste marketing potential on someone who will not fight for a title anytime soon?

And finallly from the other side of the coin...
John Fitch no longer needs exposure, he needs paydays. If as a professional fighter you care about card placement, your pretty-boy ass shouldnt be fighting period. Maybe an acting career?

Fitch vs. Gono is a money-making fight? For who? Jon Fitch? Not a single person on the planet is buying this PPV for Jon Fitch. Not one.

Gono wears shorts. It's Aoki that wears the flashy tights (grappling pants). Two totally different fighters, different styles, different organizations, different weight classes.

Also as long as Jon Jones does lots of spinning moves (kicks, backfists, ELBOWS) like he did last time against Gusmao, he'll be entertaining. Jon Jones proved he deserves a spot on the televised portion based upon his explosiveness and creativeness. I'm pretty sure when we all found out Jon Jones was that fun to watch on the undercard, that we actually wished he got put on the maincard.

Dana always seems to put someone on the under card. But Fitch is crazy. He just fought Pierre for the Title. Dana has Brandon Vera (Not that he has shown much but they were paying him 6 figures) on the undercard before the card is even finalized for UFC 96. I hate Vera almost as much as Tito. (Then need to sign Tito and put him on the undercard.) THey need to broadcast the undercard anyway. Just have no announcers (or a B-team) for us that is interested.

Didn't the same thing happen to Gonzaga?

Fitch being an undercard at this point in his career is one of the dumbest things Dana has ever done. He needs to be publicly humiliated.
Fenix- January 28, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Fitch FTW! I better see some undercard action between fights Sat. WTF is wrong with you, Dana? Isn't he like 40 something and acting like hes in middles school. Not cool!

Fitch is going to smash Gono and those lame tights that he always wears. I hate Gono.

Too bad Gono sucks so bad. Fitch will RAPE his ASS.

Such a bullcrap move by the UFC. Fitch is easily a top 5 welterweight (top 3 in my opinion). Ben and Ben, you should start another petition (kind of like your New York MMA legalization one) to move Fitch up to the main card next time he fights.
Eat My Buns- January 28, 2009 at 6:31 pm
i hope jon wins by KO or tapout so dana is forced to pay him some extra cash mooooooney
Poo Flinger- January 28, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Fitch on the undercard fighting a nobody... I can kind of understand. Gono fighting a nobody I can kind of understand too. But Fitch vs Gono on the undercard is ridiculous. This is a money making fight and DW can hold enough of a grudge to financially hurt his own company just to prove a point to a fighter that thought maybe signing his likeness away for a lifetime might not be such a great idea. What a retard!
dualdiagnosis- January 28, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Fitch is going to lose to Gono and the next day be released by the UFC. If he is unhappy with the terms he has to fight under with Dana, and feels the need to make it public, he will be happier fighting for some regional promotion.
CJ- January 28, 2009 at 5:24 pm
Man, Dana White is such a petty fucking asshole. Jon Fitch getting treated like that is why we should all be showing Affliction and other promotions all the support we can. There needs to be competition so fighters don't get fucked like that.

i don't care how much money they spent on primetime, i am not missing top chef.
