He might be a "t-shirt guy," but Affliction VP Tom Atencio has enough balls to actually compete in the sport that he promotes. According to MMA Fanhouse, Atencio will be fighting on the supporting card of the June 27th MMA event at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi that will be headlined by Bobby Lashley vs. Bob Sapp. Another heavyweight match between Pedro Rizzo and Gilbert Yvel has also been booked. Said Atencio on his decision to get out from behind his desk and strap on the gloves:
No, Atencio’s fight won’t be a celebrity MMA bout against arch-nemesis Dana White (who could smash Ricardo Arona, by the way). He’ll be taking on a yet-unnamed lightweight, probably at a weight of 160 pounds: "Not sure I can make 155 at 42 years old."
While we give huge props to Tom for the effort, we can’t help reading into what this means for Affliction as an MMA promotion. It can’t be a great sign when their main promoter and two of their heavyweights are planning on keeping busy with other endeavors for the month of June. When asked why he wouldn’t be fighting under the Affliction banner, all Atencio would say is "They don’t think it’s right for me to fight for my own event." (They?) Still no word on when/where Affliction’s third event will be held, if they are indeed having one, but we’ll keep you posted.

commentsDo douchebags wear Affliction clothing?
Yes, they also wear Tapout and other brands.
If Affliction was still selling just shirts in the UFC, the perception of their (and most other brands) ugly shirts would have been the same.
As far as I know, Affliction sponsored (sponsors) lots of fighters, helping them earn a living in a sport where the pay is miserable. Dont remember hearing them stiffing fighters.
So why the hate?
Because they are a competitor to the UFC. Period.
The brought in Fedor and a few other fighters and then overpaid fighters: which is good for us and GREAT for the fighters.
They didnt stiff fighters, pay the headliners garbage (hey Jardine), threathen them or humiliate them in public.
No, they have been pretty much the same in the way they treat athletes yet they are now douchebags in the eye of the drooling Dona White ass lickers.
There is no difference between the UFC fanbois and the Mac fanbois who take personally any direct or even indirect competition on their precious little life-affirming precious.
Of course, if their homorerotic aerobics instructor ever had the balls to step into the ring, they would be wacking over his magazine covers all day.
Atencio will most likely lose but it doesnt matter either way, its not like a win is going to mean anything.
The only thing that will change is that all the couch potatoes will be slamming a guy who had the balls to do what the computer heroes will never do.
Then afterwards he'd give him a t-shirt to wipe away his tears.
Red Dragons !
Did anyone watch the Countdown to UFC 97? You did? Ok well did you see how freakin' haggard Rizzo looks these days?
