Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

One More Time, You Sure You Want to Be a F*cking Fighter?

(A little hard on the ref, aren’t we? We’ll let it go because we love the "G is for gangster" line so much.)

We have three words to say about this video of Miguel Torres getting his head repaired: Ho. Lee. Shit.  The boys at MMA Mania shot this video of a New Jersey cosmetic surgeon trying to make Torres look like a regular human being again following the nasty cut he suffered in his loss to Joseph Benavidez at WEC 47

Now that we’ve seen the footage, we sort of wished they’d just stayed out of the operating room and let us continue believing that these things are healed by the delicate licks of newborn kittens.  Something about seeing a living person’s skull, as well as watching their skin get tugged around like a pair of unloved pleather pants feels…wrong.  I’m going to go throw up now, and then immediately cancel my trip to audition for the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter."

This is such a minor, controlled, almost bloodless procedure. Nothing gory about it at all.

Now, I didn't say it was EASY. Sterman is a freaking artist.

Don't be jealous, Smitty. One day, someone other than your Uncle Jack will want to touch you "that way".

"I think this one of those instances where the validity of elbows on the ground is put into question."

For all the elbow strikes thrown on the ground this doesn't seem to happen that often.

And if you took them out you'd take away the best offensive tool on the ground for everyone else except JJ aces.

It would be a de-evolution back to UFC 1 with JJ guys trying to barnacle onto and drag everybody to the ground were they'd be, by rule instead of ignorance, defenseless again.
(Technically offenseless I guess)

That doctor almost seemed as if he would have prefered a "reach around" with that kiss. That cut ain't the only skin of Torres' that doc wanted to handle.

@ Cro mag
I think that elbows on the ground are a strike that should not be regulated as much as they are. When you can end a fight with one elbow, that is the way it should be. It is a fight and I think the old Pride rules are the way to go - almost everything goes. The sport is vicious and so are elbows. It is the nature of the beast.

"I think he should be very sucessful in the rest of his boxing career"

Silly doctor! Giggle.. :)
At least he's in the ballpark instead of saying "in the rest of his figureskating career"..

Oh and I was eating lasagna while watching this

The fact that Corey Hart's "Never Surrender" was playing in the operating room was fucking hilarious. Great googly moogly, Torres is muthafuckin' hardcore.

I don't remember exactly but I think they cut happened then almost right after he was submitted. Someone correct me if I'm wrong I can't remember but I think the two were really close.

I missed that fight but the ref should have stopped it after getting that cut.
robthom- March 18, 2010 at 5:33 pm
I sure dont care for closeups of disgusting cuts.

If it was me in the ring and I did that to Torres I'd throw in the towel myself just so I wouldn't have to look at him anymore.
BryanF- March 18, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Doctor: So how'd this happen? Was it a knee?

Torres: It was an elbow from a midget.

Man, Benavidez did look damn short compared to Torres.
