Pat Healy vs. Josh Thomson Added to June 26 ‘Fedor vs. Werdum’ Fight Card

Strikeforce announced this afternoon the addition of a lightweight tilt between the promotion’s former 155-pound kingpin Josh Thomson and former MFC welterweight champ Pat "Bam Bam" Healy to its June 26 Fedor vs. Werdum Fight card. The event, which will also feature a rematch between former Strikeforce middleweight titleholder Cung Le and Scott Smith, will emanate from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.

Healy (23-15) is a UFC, WEC and IFL vet who holds wins over Carlos Condit, Dan Hardy and Paul "Tinnitus" Daley. He has won seven of his last 10 fights, including a pair of Ws he earned against up-and-coming Canadian welterweight Ryan "The Real Deal" Ford.

Thomson (16-4 1, NC) was originally scheduled to face Lyle Beerbohm on the card, but it was announced that "Fancy Pants" had sustained an injury in his hotly contested bout with Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro last month, so Healy was brought in as his replacement. He’s coming off a highly competitive battle with Gilbert Melendez in December that saw "The Punk" lose his title and the bout via unanimous decision.

@Mike Russell Look, I'm just sayin' -- I've never heard anybody describe an event as "emanating from" a location. It's a weird usage, period.

Typically, "emit" and "emanate" can be used as synonyms:

There was a smell emitting from the trash.
There was a smell emanating from the trash

The proposals emanated from a committee
The proposals emitted from a committee

now try your sentence:

The event will emit from the HP Pavilion (Huh?!)

I'll make you a deal -- you stop using words inappropriately and I'll stop calling you on it. :-)

UPDATE: BTW, it really crazy that I got under your skin enough that you had to google-stalk me to find something to fire back with. That's just creepy, man.

Seriously, that is a werid freakin' way to put it. (And, btw, it's Pavilion -- with one L.)

"Emanating from" something implies that there is a source / origin and that something is coming out of it. You know, like a horrible smell emanating from the trash can. Or from your writing. (BOOSH!)

I suppose you could say that the broadcast is technically emanating from that location, but that seems a bit of a stretch. How about one of these instead?

"The event will take place at the HP Pavilion."
"The event will be held at the HP Pavilion."

or, if you're feeling frisky

"The event will transpire at the HP Pavilion."

(Of course, there is debate among language critics and other professional douche bags about that use of the word transpire, but I think we'd give you a pass.)

Breaking News:

Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennet is out of his June 26th fight with KJ Noons at an upcoming Strikeforce event. He is currently hospitalized after being injured in an unfortunate hit and run accident at an on ramp on the !-5 freeway in southern Los Angeles. He apparently had not eaten in approximately 31 hours, at least according to an important piece of evidence recovered by detectives at the scene of the accident. He has suffered multiple fractures to the chest, pelvis, both arms, the neck, and was found choking on fragments of gold teeth and a crack-cocaine smoking device.

He has been airlifted to an area hospital and is receiving as good a quality of medical treatment as a homeless racially-challenged non-medical insurance bearing individual could possibly hope to receive in this modern American economy. Scheduled to make an appearance on his behalf is newly discovered and unknown mystery fighter "Kid Kaos". Here's Jim with the weather...
