Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Paul Daley, Ricco Rodriguez Both Miss Weight (Again) @ BAMMA 5

(Ricco desperately tries to squeeze off a couple more ounces on the scale. For more BAMMA 5 weigh-in pics, check out MMAWeekly)

No strangers to epic weigh-in failure, Paul Daley and Ricco Rodriguez were once again thwarted by the scales today while trying to make their BAMMA 5 bouts official. Main event fighter Paul Daley missed weight for the fifth time in his career, initially weighing in at 172 pounds for the welterweight contest, then getting down to 170.4 before his additional weigh-in time ran out.

Like the UFC, BAMMA follows the Unified Rules of MMA, which doesn’t allow a one-pound allowance for title fights. As a result, Daley’s bout against DEEP champ Yuya Shirai has been downgraded to a three-round non-title affair. Not a good look if you’re trying to convince Strikeforce to give you a title fight against Nick Diaz.

As for Rodriguez, the former UFC star made it all the way down to 217 for his 215-pound catchweight meeting against James McSweeney. According to McSweeney, Ricco was trying to cut ten pounds in four hours on the day of weigh-ins, and didn’t quite make it. Keep in mind that Rodriguez’s last weigh-in ended in him coming in ten pounds heavy for what was supposed to be his light-heavyweight debut. Rodriguez and Daley will both have to forfeit a portion of their purse to their opponents.

It wasn’t completely their fault, though. Apparently the host hotel switched off their sauna for some reason, forcing Daley and other BAMMA fighters to desperately seek out another hot room to sweat in. Another fighter on the main card, middleweight Claudio Henrique Da Silva, also came in heavy, weighing in at 186.5 against his opponent Jean-Francois Lenogue. Full BAMMA 5 weigh-in results are below…

Paul Daley (170.4) vs. Yuya Shirai (169.6)

Id bet the ranch that after Mcsweeney loses he blames it on the weight difference.

Not a Strikeforce hater, just hate how half-ass they do everything.

Daley missing weight doesn't mean shit for his Strikeforce title shot. This is an organization that is centering an event around a Heavyweight who's too much of a dick and too lazy to get reinstated by the CSAC so they are looking into other states and possibly Japan, has given title shots to fighters coming off losses, allows their champions to go years without defending their title, couldn't put together what would be their most profitable must see fight in Diaz-Miller, never find fights to put Miller their most popular fighter, didn't even bid on Jake Shields when he became a free agent, let M-1 do whatever they want and take half their earnings whenever Fedor fights, and generally sets up complete mismatches to get knockout results. Do you really think Daley missing weight at BAMMA will stop them from giving him the title shot?

This card is starting to have debacle written all over it. Maybe I will save my $10 and not order it after all.

I personally don't give a fuck what SF thinks. 5 or 3 rounds I want to see Daley V Diaz, I don't think they will need more then 3 rounds anyway.

"Not a good look if you’re trying to convince Strikeforce to give you a title fight against Nick Diaz"

Are you kidding, they don't give a fuck. Strikeforce is full of a bunch of misfits.

@ Hooligun, agreed on the sauna thing, but 5 out of 11 times, c'mon
hooligun- February 25, 2011 at 3:12 pm
looks like only 2 of 22 hit the mark exactly...
hooligun- February 25, 2011 at 3:11 pm
if you are in the last stages of a cut and the sauna is turned off surely you will lose vital sweat time looking for another?

seems reasonable to me, as a fan of daley........

Pretty effing pathetic. It's not like they picked the fight a week out. It's a godamned title fight! Sure its not the UFC title.. or even SF.. but shit if you can't even make weight for a title fight for any other organization, the big boys arent going to take you seriously. Fucking moron. Where are all the daley fagboys?

^And no one to lock you in against your will.

5 out of 11 fights over weight. C'mon. This isn't TUF. Apparently you can't lose weight if there's absolutely no Sauna to be found.
