(Protect yourself at all times. Seriously, Daniel, *all* times.)
Australian upstart fight promotion Impact FC recently confirmed that UFC refugee Paul Daley will be competing at their July 18th show in Sydney — not on 7/3 as originally reported — against Chute Boxe product Daniel Acacio (21-9). According to impactfc.au.com, the Sydney fight card currently looks like this:
Two thoughts come to mind upon seeing this lineup: 1) Damn, that’s a lot of star power for a brand-new league. And 2) My God, this is like the MMA equivalent of the Legion of Doom. Let’s run it down…
Ken Shamrock: Steroid abuser. Pretty much just shows up for a paycheck these days, unless he’s fighting someone even less healthy than he is. Last-minute dodging of fight against Kimbo Slice started a chain of events that led to the demise of EliteXC.
Jesse Taylor: Suspended by the UFC for a drunken rampage in which he abused limousine windows, slot machines, and female casino guests. Pissed shorts on national TV.
Jeff Monson: Noted anarchist, vandal, polygamist and alleged grandfather clock destroyer.
Ricco Rodriguez: Former drug addict. Likes to tell the story of how he got into a bad car accident while high, then dragged the body of his girlfriend (who he thought was dead) into the driver’s seat so the cops wouldn’t bust him for driving with a suspended license. Spit at Ben Rothwell during an IFL fight.
Keep in mind that Impact’s debut event on July 10th will feature repeated steroid suspect Josh Barnett and Armenian basket case Karo Parisyan. Not a bad way to build heat for your promotion, if you don’t mind working with the dangerous and unpredictable. But if half of these fights fall apart before showtime, don’t come crying to us…
