Penn Claims Florian Fight Is On For UFC 101 in Philly

According to a new posting on BJPenn.com, the UFC lightweight champ will defend his lightweight title against #1 contender Kenny Florian in the headlining bout of UFC 101 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 8th. The report states that Florian has already signed the bout agreement, and Penn's own signing was imminent. It will be the first time the UFC's lightweight title has been contested in 15 months, since BJ Penn defeated Sean Sherk by TKO at UFC 84 last May. Florian has won his last six fights (five by stoppage), but hasn't competed since his first-round submission of Joe Stevenson at UFC 91 in November.
If the Penn/Florian report is accurate, it would mean that two of the UFC's five championship titles could potentially be on the line in the month of August. As we previously reported, a middleweight title scrap between Anderson Silva the winner of Anderson Silva/Thales Leites [Ed. note: Ha! Sorry, Thales!] and Demian Maia may be added to UFC 102 (August 29th; Portland, Ore.).

Wow, if they actually do match Maia with Silva, that's a terrible idea. Maia has looked impressive so far, but the only decent opponent he's faced is Sonnen, and that guy is a submission victory waiting to happen. I don't see Maia pulling any better odds than Thales.

I am really excited to see this fight go down. I've been a fan of BJ and Florian both for a long time fortunatly or perhaps unfortunatley Bj has made it a lot easier to go for Florian this time. I think he made his point about his fight with GSP and he needs to move on. He may have just made such a fuss about all of that to better market another fight with the greasy french canadian. Oh weel I wish the best to Florian on this card. All he has to do is take BJ's head out of the game which these days seems easier then ever. I hope he has gsp in his corner that would be fun right?

BJ should have been motivated for the GSP fight. I don't see how any of his actions so far show that he's going to try any harder for KenFlo. If anything, I have a feeling he's going to underestimate him. But an unmotivated BJ at his natural weight can still beat a lot of fighters so I'm glad to see some action toward the fight actually happening.

I think everyone is missing a very good point here, BJ did not look the best against GSP but Kenflo is certainly not on the same level as GSP and at 155 BJ is unstoppable. Kenny is going to be in for a very short night im afraid. I dont like BJ whining all over the place either but what would you do if in the biggest fight of your career the other fighter cheated? I personally dont believe it made a bit of difference but no matter how you look at it GSP's camp therefor GSP cheated. BJ has every right to be upset and I think he will take it out on Kenflo.
