If you watched last night’s UFC event, you already know that BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez was one of the most lopsided five-round fights in UFC history. But exactly how bad did things get for the hapless challenger? According to FightMetric, Sanchez threw 108 strikes at Penn, and only landed eight of them. Seriously. Eight, the whole fight. That’s a 7% success rate. By comparison, Penn was able to touch Sanchez 150 times out of 214 tries, for a remarkable 70% success rate. Compounding his failure, Sanchez also went 0/24 on his takedown attempts. (Fun fact: Penn hasn’t been successfully taken down by a lightweight since Takanori Gomi, six years ago. But hey, kudos to Sanchez for trying anyway.)
Of course, you could also just look at the above photo to understand what a bad situation the Nightmare found himself in at the FedExForum. Allow Dana White to explain what you’re looking at:
After the jump: A completely unmarked BJ Penn discusses his victory.

UFC FAN
So let me get this straight. You talk shit and level personal attacks in a forum that is supposed to have reasonable discussion, and if I call you out on it, I am a crybaby. Let me try this in a more gentle way. Your personal attacks are not appropriate in a serious MMA blog. If you want to have childish exchanges with people then you should go to Sherdog. Please stop being a douche."
If you could see the large smile I have on my face, typing to you is like typing to a 5 year old.....so naive so innocent.
So let me SET you straight. You have been here ...how long? And Mine is the first messages you have read that were not on topic or negative or involve personal attacks? Are you really that new? Are you really that goddamn blind?
Not appropriate for a serious MMA blog? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.ohhhhh my, that was so good to laugh like that again.
Do you have a clue as to where you are?
Stick around kid, you might find so many things to talk about...maybe off topic, maybe even find a new playmate, or 5 or 10.
I can't wait to see what other new and innocent, silly thing you have to say. While I wait for the new year and Diego to heal, we have so much time, I do so hope you can fill the void.
I mean, guys, have you forgotten what p4p means? Yes, GSP f*cked up BJ. No doubt about that one, but think what would happen if they threw GSP in front of Silva... Imo it would be much worse. And I've seen GSP lose against Hughes and Serra, BJ only lost to Pulver at 155 if you want to go into specific fights.
But I do agree that GPS is good. No question about that. And Fedor is good as well. I Just _can't_ understand anyone placing him above silva or bj. Or GSP.
It's not always the win that gets you ahead in the UFC either my friend.
Diaz and the training with his brother(striking) the BJJ skills set he has would be better than anything Maynard, Edgar or Griffin could throw at Penn right now, they wouldn't touch him with a ten foot poll. I think BJ got his name cause he got a BJJ black belt in three years of training. I think BJ would beat Diaz, but i'm a fight fan and I would really like to see it.
Diaz and GSP comparison was rather simple, not too deep obviously. When GSP was scoring 30 takedowns a round against BJ, the way he did it was very athletic and powerful yes, but more than anything it was clever, he was able to do it part by using his reach. Diaz has six inches on Penn, not two or three and he knows how to take guys down. Sanchez was close, maybe two inches to being able to get BJ's other leg while they were against the cage, so he just kept trying, but he had no chance really......they all have no chance! But I think because he has that unique Diaz boxing, enough skills on the ground and a chin it could be a better fight than the rest.
As for Diaz, I think he already has a win over maynard via choke (on TUF) but I do not think he'd be any match for BJ. It would be an interesting match up style/skill wise but I think he'd just get pummeled on the feet like everyone else. Even if anyone does manage to get BJ down which is no easy task, that really doesn't put you in an advantagous position. He's not called the prodigy because he's good at striking afterall.
I don't really get how you can compare gsp and diaz for obvious reasons, so I won't even comment on that.
The blanket treatment, nice one and a very accurate way to describe Guida. That's the wild card guida brings to the table, he is taking advantage of the "dated" judging system in MMA. In my humblest of humbles, I thought Diego beat him 30-27 because when on the ground I saw Diego going for Triangles, guillotines and kimura's galore(but because guida locked his arms around Diego's waste for most of the fight, Guida actually took it on one of the cards!) And the exact same goes for Diaz, Diaz is a master on the ground and was very active, but Guida got the win.
I want Diaz to take maynard and I think Diaz would be a good fight against BJ(one of a few at LW), if you look how GSP swept BJ, Diaz's arms are long enough to do the same, but that does not mean Diaz would win.
Nice one on Guida, I made some cash on Kenflo.....I have this theory of sorts about guys coming off of losing a title fight as the challenger.....Generally the fighter wins his next fight, most recently Kenflo and T.Silva. I applied the "rule" for Kenflo v. Guida, because that was the only logic I could find when placing my bet.
I was iffy on Mir at first and the Vera loss was definitely on my mind.. but the more I thought about it the more sure I was, and then seeing the shape he was in sealed the deal. My original parlay was mir/guida/penn, but after some thought I luckily dropped guida. I ended up with a palhares/fitch/penn/mir parlay and a penn/mir parlay. Was a good week of betting for me mma and otherwise. Well played on both our parts, lucky for us a lot of people aren't smart enough to look at things like common opponents and level of competition I guess.
Read my top post, I was talking about Penn/Stevenson-Diego/Stevenson a long time ago.
I too took advantage of the betting line as well, but did not have the stones to bet on Mir(never again, he cost me cash against Vera big time).
I took in $200 on cash bets and put $200 on Penn at -240.

"Who really wants to fight BJ right now? (at 155 anyway) He just made The Nightmare grow a vagina on his head and an extra eyebrow, And not to mention whatever trauma has obviously occurred to his mouth."
Looks like Diego Sanchez and UFC fan have something in common.. BJ induced mouth trauma. ZING!
I've been saying from the beginning that Diego is getting too much hype due to stellar performances against mediocre competition, and that him and bj are not in the same league. It's one thing to look impressive against clay guida (even though one of the judges actually gave that fight to clay), and beating the crap out of top guys like bj does. Just compare diego/stevenson and penn/stevenson, that should have answered any questions.

And thats what makes him a real murican.
