10 Legendary MMA Fighters You've Probably Never Heard Of

Petruzelli, Monson, Nelson Return at “March Badness” Boxing/MMA Event


(Seth Petruzelli: Not exactly a crowd favorite.) 

Former greatest pound-for-pound boxer in the world Roy Jones Jr. is testing the waters of MMA promotion with a hybrid boxing/MMA card to be held March 21st in Pensacola, Florida. Jones’s company Square Ring Promotions, Inc. is hosting "March Badness" at the Pensacola Civic Center, featuring RJJ himself boxing in the main event against Palestinian-American journeyman Omar Sheika. Jones, who has held titles in four different weight classes during his career, is coming off a high-profile decision loss to Joe Calzaghe in November. Of greater interest to MMA fans is the event’s supporting card, which will feature three fairly compelling MMA matches.

Seth Petruzelli, the flamingly heterosexual UFC vet who jabbed-out Kimbo Slice at EliteXC: Heat in October then accidentally admitted he was bribed to keep the fight standing, will be facing Doug "Rhino" Marshall, the former WEC light-heavyweight champion who lost his belt to Brian Stann last March. Also on the card, WWE-superstar-turned-MMA-prospect Bobby Lashley, who scored a 41-second TKO over rookie Joshua Franklin during his MMA debut in December, will take on a heavyweight opponent to be named later. And legal problems notwithstanding, Jeff Monson has been booked to fight former IFL champ Roy Nelson, who was most recently knocked out by Andrei Arlovski at EliteXC: Heat.

The whole shebang will be available on pay-per-view.

I'm gettig ready to watch it now. I love mma and am a semi fan of boxing. I hope it goes well. The more promotions there are the more chances there will be to build good fighters up. Some great fighters come from other orgs. I hope to see King "MO" there after he gets his striking in order.

seth petruzelli vs doug marshall and jeff monson vs roy nelson as well as the roy jones fight.i cant wait i have live tickits and im going to be sitting right outside the cage!!!!!!!!

Big Country is a good guy. I'd like to see him win. Though he got taken by Andre, he showed a lot of promise -- it's not like Andre smoked him every second of the fight.

I'm excited to see Biggums back in the ring.

Depending on the price, and who hes fighting, i might just order this to see Lashley lin action. Dudes even more of a tank then Lesnar was, and not nearly as douchey.

Big country was KO'ed at the affliction banned event...not heat. Just thought I'd play edit nazi, I'm sure someone's brought it to your attention by now.

I'm curious to see Seth fight again, it might give us a heads up as to if Kimbo is really that bad or Seth has improved that much...I know what I think

Crap on me this looks semi-interesting.... get exposure to Lashley and Petruzelli.... plus Monson vs. Nelson.... only wish RJJ was fighting someone decent and then I'd really be pumped...

What kind of $$$ we talking here? No way they're getting near $50 from me.... we start talking under $30 and with one more intriguing matchup (be it boxing OR mma) and I'm there.

"Street" is the ITT Tech for minorities. These sound like interesting fights, but I'm not shelling out $50 to see them. I'll wait till they come on TV, i.e. Cagepotato

Looks like a decent card for a non-UFC promotion.

We get to see Nelson vs. Monson, which should be a great fight.
We'll get to see how green Lashley is (depending on who they feed to him)

I couldn't care less about Petruzelli, but watching Jones Jr. box isn't such a bad thing.
