Phil Baroni Earned His Money at UFC 106
('Best eva!' just doesn't have the same ring of authority when you say it through a bunch of gauze.)
Dana White posted this picture of a battered Phil Baroni to his Twitter account today, remarking "Phil baroni sent me this today and said 'welcome back to the ufc' phil is tough as nails!" True, but he might also be a tough-as-nails fighter who's worried about losing his job, hence the subtle reminder that he endured this beatdown for the UFC's benefit, while only pocketing $25,000 for his trouble.
If you needed a reminder that fighting other people in a cage was a tough way to make a living, this ought to do it. Baroni has been in the sport for nearly a decade, and, after taxes, training costs, and management, he comes away with not even enough money to buy a new Toyota Camry. That's ironic considering that he now looks like someone who's been in a pretty bad car accident. Let's hope his sponsors came through for him. Let's also hope that he's been putting some of that money away for his retirement, which might be right around the corner.

He's a wasted talent as a fighter, but he's a funny guy and usually seems pretty cool.
He was great when he worked the commentary booth with Rogan and Goldie so many years ago. I wish he would do that more often.

Baroni's always got the "UFC Physique" whenever he steps in the ring. He should spend a little less time lifting weights and more time on the treadmill.
He's got a punch with the power of a mule kick. But if he's too tired to throw it in the second round, he's not doing himself any favors.
So who does Phil fight now?

Look at Baroni's record, look at what the other guys on the card were paid, and then try to tell me that Baroni is worth $25K to show with a straight face. He washed out of Strikeforce and somehow failed upwards into the UFC. Even with a full gas tank, Baroni is still a one-dimensional relic.

Now that I think of it, I'd bet good money that Baroni's next opponent is Matt Hughes. Hughes has basically said he only wants "big name" guys that are beatable, right? Baroni is tailor-made for ol' Country Breakfast to give one last wrestling/G&P clinic on.

THE LAST THING I would pay to watch would be Baroni vs Hughes....perhaps i'd watch it for free, however. But i definitely wouldn't care about the outcome....since both fighters are all but relevant in any system of ranking or title contention whatsoever. Baroni just wasted the last little bit of namesake related popularity he had...and hughes only wants to fight cans...pretty lame
