It is actually respectful to use the honorifics of a culture if referring to someone of that culture, when it gets cringeworthy is when people get it wrong, Japanese is a classic example, there are certain greetings for certain times of day and situations, get it wrong and yer insulting the person you're trying to impress. I took Japanese lessons for a short time and that always used to fuck me up
