MMA Fighter Challenges People to Punch Him in the Face, Everyone Fails

Poke!

(Courtesy of MMA-Core.com)

In case you’re wondering what a TKO via eye poke really looks like, here’s a close-up view from the Anthony Johnson-Kevin Burns debacle that you can watch again and again. Notice how, after the poke and the ensuing uppercut, the left hand that Burns comes back around with also has the fingers extended outward in poke-ready mode. I would suggest refining his punching technique, but it did result in him getting the win. As my grandfather used to say, if it ain’t broke, why not poke?

In other UFC Fight Night news, check out the below video of the post-fight press conference. Skip to 6:45 to hear Dana White give his take on Affliction and their fighters. Then he goes ahead and bashes the IFL one more time, mostly out of habit.

I like how DW always bashes other organizations, claiming that they wont last. Yeah, Affliction did drop alot of money for this fight card, but you never come out on top your first couple promotions or fights. It took the UFC years to start making a profit. Samething will happen with Affliction. DW is just concerned.

There's no way that decision should stand. I think Johnson was so level headed about it because he realized he's lucky he didn't lose his fucking eye.

"So can they go back and change the decision after looking at the tape and seeing that it was a finger to the eye and not a TKO? How is this possible in this day and age with instant replay and all the damn cameras there"
No, the rules state once a ref makes a decision they can not go back and change it because of video footage...yes its fucking stupid.
ALSO-Kevin Burns was specifically throwing open palm strikes...not to hurt Anthony but because he broke his own hand 3 times recently. Its kinda shitty but its not against the rules and we can't go back and change it. I believe he did not mean to poke Anthony's eye out.

It should have been a NO CONTEST. Don't even know if that is available in the UFC, but it shouldn't have been called anything except unfortunate. NC it, then let them pick it up again later.

A bad call by Mazagatti? No way! He's always on top of things!
Clue-by-Four- July 20, 2008 at 4:28 pm
It was a bullshit decision by Mazagatti. Multiple warnings to watch his fingers and he calls that a TKO? Do we need to start calling him Mr. Magoo now?

Pathetic.

I was shocked when Johnson didn't win by DQ. can mazzagatti look up at the replay they showed in slow motion. what a tool.
even Rogan was like wtf?! Johnson was waaaay too cool about it, he or his corner should have made a big stink about it and at the very least had it turned into a NC.

dana white is such a fucking prick. i hope the UFC goes out of business and he ends up sucking cock for crack on the strip. fuck that bald bitch.

Watching the replay over a few times, I just cannot see how that wasn't somewhat intentional.

Johnson is nothing but a class act. He could have groused about the whole ordeal and been completely justified in doing so. Instead, he takes the high road and even gives a shout out for his opponent.

He's a better man than I am.
