President’s Day Special: Jardine/Silva Rumors, Liddell Talks Shogun & Gina’s Next Fight

Someone just mentioned it’s President’s Day – which is cool, I guess. So in honor of the day, here’s some news.

The Dayton Daily News is confirming what we all suspected: That a light heavy fight between Keith Jardine and Wanderlei Silva at UFC 82 will not be happening. The show is set for March 1st in Columbus, Ohio. The rumors for this match were given more fuel when ads for UFC 82 shown on Versus during WEC 32 straight-up promised that Jardine was going to be there. An editing snafu is being blamed, but the fight could happen this year. The DDN is saying a source close to Jardine has confirmed the fight is in the works and could go down this summer – MMA Junkie is saying UFC 84 could be the card for this fight.

Chuck Liddell believes he’ll smoke Mauricio “Shogun” Rua during their fight on June 7th. And “The Iceman” also believes he should be fighting Rampage for the title…like NOW. Chuck had this to say to Brawl Sports:

“He’s a good fighter … had a great career in Pride, and I’ll be glad to show him again why UFC is better than Pride. I have the edge in the standup game and the wrestling game, too. His submission game is decent, but I don’t think I’ll have a problem with his submission game, either.

“I didn’t think I needed two wins in a row to get a title shot. But two fights definitely give me the credibility to get a title shot.”

— For those of you holding our breath to get a glimpse of Gina Carano in the cage again soon, well keep holding. MMA Weekly is saying it’ll be a while longer before we see Gina struttin’ her stuff in the MMA world. “Crush” – as Gina is known to most of the world via the new version of “American Gladiators” – recently revealed on “MMA Weekly” that she will probably next be shooting yet another season of AG.

“I might be doing another season of American Gladiators in March and April and then right after that I’d like to jump into a fight.”

It is somewhat ironic that Carano has had a difficult time nailing down her next fight. As she said on Friday night, “I originally did the American Gladiators thing to help bring in the crowd to female fighting and watching me on EliteXC.”

Carano was rumored to be on the next EliteXC/Strikeforce co-promotion set for March 29th. That now looks to be just that – a rumor.

— And Bloody Elbow has a link to the new “Fight Quest” episode and a recipe for some bitchin’ chicken wings. Enjoy both together.

So, as long as Jackson is champ Liddell should never get another title shot?
How does that work?

Liddell is a bad fight for Rua. Chuck will win.

It would be funny if Shogun kicks Liddell's ass :)

Liddell doesn't deserve another fight with Rampage. He's already been knocked out twice by Jackson; in my opinion, a third fight is meaningless.
