Proving Ground: The Journey to Find MMA’s Next Killer Prospect Begins Now

Proving Ground MMA logo

Ladies and gentleman, the cage doors are now open.

In partnership with Shark Fights and Lionsgate, CagePotato is proud to announce the official launch of Proving Ground. More than just a contest, Proving Ground is a six-week quest to find a rising MMA star and follow his life and training as he approaches what could be a career-changing fight.

If you visit, you’ll find our first batch of eight applicants; we invite you to watch their videos and get to know them. On August 15th, we’ll announce four finalists who we think best represent the CagePotato brand, featuring their bios and exclusive interviews/video blogs on the Proving Ground page. And with your help, we’ll select a single fighter out of those four — the “Proving Ground #1 Contender” — who will receive a three-fight contract with Shark Fights and make their debut at Shark Fights 19, September 10th in Independence, Missouri.

So if you’re an up-and-coming pro MMA fighter who deserves some recognition, please e-mail by the end of next week with your official fight record (preferably from Sherdog or, a photo of yourself, and 1-3 of your fight videos.

Applicants must be licensed to fight, and available to compete professionally in the U.S. in September. If you have any questions, throw ‘em in the comments section below or e-mail us. Thanks to Lionsgate for making this possible, and please follow Shark Fights on Facebook and Twitter.

Glad to see so many other Tyson Chartier fans on here. He's definitely one of my favorite fighters to go out and support at local events. I'd love to see what he could do with this opportunity. GO TYSON!

Tyson has been grinding up opponents for long enough! He as humble as they come but it's about time he gets recognized!!! I love watching his fights...couldn't think of a better fighter/person to get this. Lets go TC!

First I would like to say GREAT JOB with the proving ground!! Great idea to market a fighter. We have had Tyson Chartier on one of our events as well as followed his career from the beginning all the way up to him gaining 2010 Boston Herold fighter of the year. He deserves this opportunity and we are super excited to also see him succeed in this!! Way to go Tyson!!!

I just watched Shark Fights on the Discovery Channel. No way I want any part of that. Please take my name out of the hat and send back my head shots (you can keep the cock shots).

So, whoever wins this should take the UFC and Strikeforce off his list of future MMA organizations?
El Guapo- August 3, 2011 at 12:52 pm
I wrote a lil "Missing Person" poem about you yesterday, Fred. Posted it on the Tito-Shad thread. Please disregard it, as you're clearly not dead.
