Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Putting a Human Face to the ‘Affliction: Trilogy’ Tragedy

Getting busted on a random steroid test and running an MMA organization into the ground may seem like fun and games to you, Josh Barnett. But it’s not so funny to all the fighters who depended on "Affliction: Trilogy" for a paycheck and some much-needed exposure. The above video shows an in-shock Rafaello "Tractor" Oliveira, breaking the bad news to BJ Penn; Oliveira was scheduled to face Takanori Gomi on the event’s main card, in what would have been the most high-profile (and, we’d assume, well-paying) fight of his career by a wide margin. Now he’s back to square one, and swallowing his sadness. Tough break, man.

But hope remains in the BJ Penn camp…

Remember when we were ragging on BJ before the Georges St. Pierre fight for his talent-poor training camp? ("They got UFC fighters? We got UFC fighters!" Penn said in his Primetime special, pointing at Justin McCully and Troy Mandaloniz.) Well, we’re not ragging anymore. Penn has learned from his mistakes, bringing in a pool of talent that includes Jake Shields, Nick and Nate Diaz, Hermes Franca, Yves Edwards, and Antoni Hardonk. Is he actually training with these guys? It’s still impossible to tell from his videos. But having them around is the first step, right?

First he jumps out of water, now a gym with a couple recognizable faces. Kenflo is doomed

BJ may have the talent but he won't have the heart to be able to finish Florian, this vid is nothing more than a last ditch attempt to try to look somewhat legit, and as usual it fails!.

so is kenny fighting BJ? or everyone in that gym?

Kenny still takes this one, by having more heart

Did anyone else realize that on top of all the sick grapplers there was BJJ legend and bane of Vitor "Shaolin" Ribiero's existence, Leo Vieira chilling down there? There is more world class BJJ in that one room than most tournaments on the planet. Sorry Kenny, but your jits game can't hold a fucking candle to those guys. If BJ is taking this shit seriously and training hard with these cats, things are going to get really scary, really quick.

This is on Iole's column right now:

Later on Friday, Affliction opted to get out of the promoting business and, in a joint statement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced it would become a sponsor of the UFC. The fate of the fighters under contract with Affliction is not known yet.

Can anyone substantiate this from any other sources???

...And for a mere 80 cents a day, you too, can give warmth, food, and shelter to this fighter that has been robbed of everything.

How much did Dana pay Barnett to ingest the steroids? That man knows how to play hardball. You heard it here first...

This really sucks for the fighters depending on a paycheck, but honestly, Affliction is to blame for running themselves into the ground. That's what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket (or fight). Definitely not cool for Barnett to be testing positive (again), but that happens all the time with fighters. The fight promotion needs to expect and plan for a situation like this and have several fighters ready to fight instead. The cancellation is the result of poor planning on Affliction's part, not because Barnett is maliciously trying to derail the whole organization

Man, that sucks. All those undercard guys, what a fucking shit sandwhich to be delt. Do a whole training camp, and get no money for it, your totally fucked, probably fucked up a couple guys' careers

It looks like the camera caught them making out in the corner As quick as Hardonki backed away and BJ pointed to the camera. BJ must be showing him the new submission he learned, the cock choke.

Call me when BJ posts Nick's rant about Riggs canceling his fight due to drug related issues. Now that will be must-see-TV.

I feel sorry for Kenny. I just don't think he's on BJ's level. BJ will win this fight anyway he wants to.
