(Nate Diaz: Not here to make friends.)
Yesterday we gazed in wonder at the poster for UFC Fight Night 19, which is being headlined, rather improbably, by a fight between Nate Diaz and Melvin Guillard. This new article about the event on UFC.com doesn’t really explain why the match is getting such a push, but it does provide some insight into Diaz’s current emotional state:
This, of course, coming from a jiu-jitsu specialist who’s not particularly known for the power of his hands, who’s never finished a fight via strikes during his UFC career. Meanwhile, Guillard is a guy who evenly splits his time between knocking dudes the fuck out and getting choked to sleep on the ground. He’s exactly the kind of guy you’d want to hold down, and not stand and trade with. But that’s that Diaz pride, fuckin’ witcha. After two straight fights in which his opponents’ wrestling beat his jiu-jitsu, all Nate wants to do is bang and put on an exciting match — and that could be the recipe for his first KO loss. Listen brah, I know it looks like gay foreplay, but sometimes sticking to your bread-and-butter is the best way to go. Just ask Michael Bisping…
