Quick Hits: Coleman/Ortiz Set for UFC 106, UFC 100 Gets an Editing Job, + More

(Mayhem Miller is back for another season of "Bully Beatdown," and he’s brought some friends with him.)

Good news for those of you whose lives have felt just a little bit emptier since the last time Tito Ortiz got his name in the news for actually fighting someone.  Seems as though Ortiz and Mark Coleman will go at it at UFC 106 on November 21.  Sources in Coleman’s camp say they’ve agreed to the bout, which means that as long as Ortiz doesn’t punk out the winner of this bout should have a career rejuvenation to be thankful for this year.  The loser will spend the holiday gulping down whiskey in a rocking chair, looking out the window at the dead leaves on the lawn and thinking about when he was young and the future seemed more like a promise and less like a threat.

In other news…

- Spike TV sent out their typical ‘In your face!’ press release trumpeting their ratings victory over Strikeforce’s “Carano vs. Cyborg” event on Saturday.  Spike’s replay of UFC 100 drew an average of 2 million viewers (513,000 in the “coveted” 18-34 year-old male demographic), while Strikeforce pulled in an average of 576,000 viewers (181,000 young dudes).  Of course, Strikeforce was on a premium cable channel, while Spike usually comes with the basic package, so that’s not all that fair a comparison, though the UFC 100 replay also beat out the PGA Championship on CBS and Major League Baseball on Fox in the 18-34 year-old male demographic.

Funny thing about that rebroadcast, apparently they took the opportunity to make a few key edits, such as cutting out Joe Rogan’s comments about Alan Belcher being robbed, Dan Henderson’s comments about wanting to shut Michael Bisping up with his last punch, and most of the post-fight footage from the Brock Lesnar-Frank Mir fight.  Because who doesn’t love a little revisionist history?

- Lastly, Shonie Carter and Carlos Newton are going to fight each other in October.  So be a doll and wash Shonie’s pimp chalice for him, would you?  And don’t put it through the goddamn dishwasher this time, or it’s going to be your ass that stays up all night gluing those bling stones back on.

Bully Beatdown- Hopefully the bullys stop getting paid so much at the end. It is must be embarassing for the fighters.

UFC 100 Replay- They made Brock look like a saint- except for when he turned his back to Mir when the ref told them to touch gloves. I really hope somebody knocks his head off.

Finally, I'd love to see Coleman take out Tito.

@agent smith

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully Andrei doesn't get KTFO by some actor.

I think I saw Jake Shields mug in that trailer too.

Who's to say that Arlovski isn't the bully on one of the shows? Oh, wait, maybe he's the guy getting picked on...
agentsmith- August 19, 2009 at 6:32 am
"Bully" def. Arlovski - KO, 0:45 Round 1.
ArmFarmer- August 19, 2009 at 5:47 am
I was under the impression his apology for doing bully beatdown was pretty sarcastic.. I don't think he really gives a shit what any of us think about his tv show as long as he gets his checks from mtv.

didn't mayhem already confess that bully beatdown was fake and that he felt horrible for doing season 1?

I didn't have Belcher winning that fight. His superman punch was great and all and he had a knockdown, but i thought akiyama controlled more of the pace, and seemed to be landing more efficiently.

Joe Rogan seems to get a little over bias.

I was just glad to see the "Bones" Jones fight, which turned out to be not as exciting as I was hoping it would be.
KidDinomite- August 18, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I think Belcher's Fat Albert tattoo cost him the fight.
mmmiles9000- August 18, 2009 at 7:43 pm
I'm glad they edited out his comment about Belcher being robbed, BECAUSE HE WASN'T. It was a close but clear victory for Sexyama. If Belcher really wanted to take it, he could have, but he didn't.

I think it makes a lot of sense for the UFC to clean that up, especially if they are pulling in 2 million viewers.

Gotta love Mayhem.

It's not revisionist history. It's about the fights, why would the UFC go ahead and RE-air some of the worst sportsmanship ever to occur in the cage... especially if it didn't happen during a fight? Though Rogan's comment being edited out is strange. But it's not censorship.. the UFC can do whatever it wants with its product, and it chose to re-air the sport in one of its best moments, and cut out when it was at its worst.. Besides... What are they gonna do, just go ahead and re-air their big star shit on Bud Light? That would've been funny if Brock literally did that. On the logo in the center of the Octogon. heh heh doodie.

Man I knew it wasn't Andre's year but shit... now he's fighting amateurs on a tv show... Didn't he save any money from his last two overpaid fights?
Peppermint Nightmare- August 18, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Aw...I like Shonie but he's a deadman.

Your friend pulled the oldest trick in the book,... lightweight
Bootylam- August 18, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Yeah they edit! Remember they took out Cantwell's childlike(ish) glee over snapping that fool's arm? I almost had to sock my friend over that one. He didn't see the real version so when we watched the rerun on tv it wasn't there and he said I was full of shit. Then I had to go dig the fucking tape out and he cashed the bowl when I was looking for it.
