Quick Quote: Kimbo Slice on Lessons Learned

We all know that Ken Shamrock has only one chance when he faces Kimbo Slice at ‘Elite XC: Heat’ on CBS this Saturday night, and that’s to get the fight to the ground and hope Kimbo’s ground game is still as bad as it looked against James Thompson. According to Kimbo, however, it just looked like he had no idea what he was doing on the mat in that fight:

“Against Thompson I learned that no matter what happens, nothing will hurt me,” Slice said. “It’s mind over matter. Mentally, I knew I was alright. It may have looked like I was in trouble, but I was fine. It’s mind over matter.”

Really? Mind over matter? That’s what he took away from that fight? Call me crazy, but just because Kimbo weathered a couple minutes worth of ineffectual elbow strikes from the decidedly mediocre Thompson, that might not be reason to believe that nothing will hurt him.

‘Conditioning and takedown defense’ might not be as cool a slogan as ‘mind over matter,’ but it would be a much better approach for Kimbo. Lucky for him both Shamrock’s mind and matter are equally weakened with age and accumulated beatdowns.

Maybe this all all part of Kimbo’s master plan. Perhaps he’s executing a “Say dumb shit then surprise them with a vastly improved ground game” plan…

@Old, Bald & Irish

They announced the odds a few days ago. Ken Shamrock is +325 Kimbo is -450.

I'm reasonably certain that Shamrock is going to get knocked out in the first round, but I'm praying that he'll somehow find a way to take Kimbo down and submit him hard. I just want Ken to expose Kimbo in an ultra-embarrassing way: flying gogoplata.

Shamrock is a KNOWN MMA JOBBER. I really hate how Shamrock fas actually managed to maintain some credibility after throwing 3 of his past 5 fights that he has lost. Kimbo will tap him out to give him some ground credibility...

Wake up fools. But I must say, if Kimbo loses I will be cheering my ass off. Don't see it happening though. And it shows how stupid Kimbo knows his target demographic is by the foolishness oif the various comments he has made after the Thompson debacle.

I would love to see Ken win this fight. Unfortunatley, when you root for a Shamrock, you need to bring up the idea that their ego could play a role in any fight they have a part in. For instance, Shamrock is a genious on the ground -- but nowadays, when he hears someone is a good stricker, it almost seem like Frank/Ken Shamrock feel they need to prove themselves in stricking with whoever the man may be, with or without the odds against them. It's almost seemingly a personality disorder (in a good or bad way)

Hopefully, Ken sticks to his roots -- which could possibly be the only way he may win this fight. In the end, I don't dislike Kimbo -- I don't respect him though. However, I never like seeing a legend of mine (Shamrock) lose, which he's been doing too often.

Kimbo is no Tito Ortiz. Kimbo is bigger, stronger and slower. Kimbo is a much better opponent for Ken. Ken has unfortunately slowed down in his age, but he is still tough. I see Ken taking this to the mat repeatedly.

I predict Ken wins in the 2nd via tapout.

Ken is going to kick Kimbo...."WITH A KICK!"
mma-pr0- September 28, 2008 at 6:14 pm

ILLbitchslapu- September 28, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Kenny will stomp a mud-hole in his ass!
Jay Smith- September 28, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Ruckus, you have the only intelligent comment posted so far. I know people want to love and hate the Kimbo circus, but the fact of the matter is that Bas chose to coach him. Just wait another year or two. In the mean time they keep throwing him these bums to get him ready. Kimbo slice by KO in the first round.

ruckus- September 28, 2008 at 4:30 pm
as bad as Kimbo has looked in the past... i just can't ignore the fact that Bas Rutten is coaching him. if Kimbo does what he's told... he should win this.
Oatmeal- September 28, 2008 at 4:25 pm

I hope Shamrock submits him in the first round. Be gone with your overhyped @ss already. Take you "street certification" and bounce.

Old, Bald and Irish- September 28, 2008 at 4:12 pm

I think "mayhem420" may have the power to see into the future!

....gotta call my bookie....
Jeff- September 28, 2008 at 4:09 pm
I will be rooting for Ken Shamrock harder than I have ever rooted for anything in my entire life.
mayhem420- September 28, 2008 at 3:57 pm
As much as I want Ken to pull out the win here... I see this going much like the 3rd Ken vs Tito fight....
Kimbo bulls Ken to the fence, throws some punches.
Ken will try for a leg only to get punched in the face and will fall down.
Stoppage.... Ken will jump up and complain.
Bas will laugh.....
