Quote of the Day: Anthony Johnson Isn’t the World’s Biggest Matt Hughes Fan

From a recent Around the Octagon interview with Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, via MMABay:  

"I’ll fight anybody the UFC puts in front of me but I’d like to fight Matt Hughes one day. People say his level of fighting is better than mine because he has a lot of experience. I don’t care. He’s a dick. Hopeufully I’ll get a chance to knock him out like Thiago Alves did…
 
When I fought Tommy [Speer] he was weird. Me and my friends were walking out of the locker room and he walked by. I said what’s up to him and nodded my head and he kept walking like I was invisible. I thought ok, you’re like that. I’m friendly. You only have one life to live. But if he’s like that I know why Matt Serra wants to beat his ass… 

 
He wants to retire but he doesn’t need to retire until I beat his ass. After Matt Serra beats him give him to me and I’ll retire him. The HIT squad is great. Everything he does is great but I want to fight him because of that incident. Maybe he didn’t see me but I saw him look right at me. You want to be like that I’ll give you a reason not to want to look at me."

One way to make a name for yourself in this sport is to destroy a fading legend, and Hughes is looking mighty vulnerable right now. If Hughes loses to Serra in May, his only options are retirement or trying to score a win against an up-and-comer like Johnson. The problem is, Johnson would be about two steps faster than the former welterweight champ, and would likely murder Hughes if he could keep the fight standing.

If he wants to continue calling people out, Rumble will first have to take care of Luigi Fioravanti at UFC Fight Night 17 (February 7th, Tampa). He should also keep this sage advice in mind: "Battle not with dicks lest you become one."

Holy shit! I doubt anyone is still looking at this thread but...

I never said hughes is the greatest fighter, i said he's the best b/c he pisses ppl off, which i thoroughly enjoy

and wtf w/ matt serra being a top contender? going the distance w/ karo is nothing special cuz karo ALWAYS goes the distance, and where is karo now?

Going the distance w/ BJ shows testament to serra great BJJ game, but his mma game fucking sucks

and FUCK YOU PPL saying serra was the best b/c he held the title. Do you know how he got the title shot? he won it on a show called "The Comeback" b/c those fighters were on their way out of the UFC. And how did he win the title? LUCKY PUNCH on a very troubled GSP w/ serious mental and minor physical problems. Do you honestly think serra can beat GSP again? his odds would be worst then 10 to 1. rumble is the MAN! he is the future of that division and will one day wear the belt, i assure you. he's a classy guy and an exciting fighter -- you can't ask for more than that.

beating the snot out of hughes would be a great win for him... and hughes might agree to it 'cause rumble's weakness is his greatest strength...

Anyone who thinks Johnson is out of line is obviously hoping that by defending Hughes' stupid douchebag redneck behavior they'll get some sort of sexual favor from Hughes as repayment.

If you say "Hello" to someone and nod at them, it's good manners to reply in some fashion. I'm not saying he had to smile and pretend like they were buddies. For as much bullshit Hughes spouts about his values and shit, you'd expect him to have some common courtesy when dealing with other fighters who he has no reason to disrespect.

Johnson is the man, a class act and a stand up guy, and I'd love to see him whoop that ass.

People just love to hate a winner.
Every athlete has their prime. In Matt Hughes' case, I think his RECORD 5 title defenses are too easily forgotten for most of the people on this thread. As far as Matt Serra goes, all I want to see is a crucifix with him taking over 30 shots instead of BJ Penn- which is 2nd favorite clip. My favorite is the Carlos Newton KO/slam.
