It usually takes a lot to upset Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, but the Croation fighter seemed to have reached a boiling point while doing a live chat on Croation sports news website Gol.hr this week. Although he made mention a handful of times during the interview of the fact that he wasn’t mad at Chael Sonnen for the recent comments “The American Gangster” made about PRIDE fights being fixed, you can tell that Chael struck a nerve with his offhand remarks.

“There is an old proverb that says: ‘Don’t argue with a fool. People won’t be able to tel the difference.’ I’ve always upheld to that. I never wanted to lower myself to that level…I’m not the first one he has taken a shot at. I had the opportunity when I was in the United States to ask some people who work for the UFC, ‘Is this man crazy or is he just craving attention?’ A man higher up in the UFC told me, ‘He’s both,’ which means he is crazy and is also craving attention,” Filipovic explained. “I’m not mad at him. I’m really not mad at this Sonnen character.”

Filipovic, who is preparing for perhaps the last fight of his storied MMA career against Roy Nelson at UFC 137 in two weeks, then went on to take a few potshots at Sonnen’s intelligence.

“I don’t want your viewers to get offended. I am not the creator of any anthropological theories, but you can tell by his face that the man is slow — that he is stupid and he has the IQ of a children’s shoe size. You can tell this by his face. The way he communicates and let’s not get into his calling out of people like [Minotauro] Nogueira, diminishing Fedor’s or Wanderlei Silva‘s or my accomplishments and so on — people whose heights he will never reach. Is he crazy? He obviously is, but I’m not mad at him,” cro Cop explained. “It’s just as I can’t get mad at my eight-month-old son, Fillip. The other day he walked over, took my glove and threw it on the floor. Should I get mad? That’s a child who doesn’t understand. It’s the same with Sonnen. He doesn’t understand. I can’t be mad at him about such accusations about fixed fights.That is a man who no one should pay attention to.”

Whether or not he’s mad at Sonnen is of secondary importance to the more pressing question: Did he really name his son Fillip Filipovic? Man, that’s a name that’s going to haunt that kid later in life.

Mirko had a solid 5 years in Pride that followed a 23 fight kicboxing career, eventually the body breaks down on you, todays breed of more athletic fighters are just too much for an aged, battle weary Cro Cop. Anyone who says Pride was all fixed and Fedor and Cro Cop were always shit and only crushed cans IS NOT a fan of MMA plain and simple. If u haven’t watched Pride don’t comment on it by using one of Chaels tired lines, If u have seen Pride u know that in it’s heyday it was the pinnacle of MMA. I’m not one of those bring back Pride guys either, I like the fact that most of the best fighters are now under the same company, better fights for the fans but man I’m sick of people saying that some of the best years in MMA were fixed, unbalanced or irrelevant. Also Mirko’s comment about Chael shitting on Fedor, Nog, Wandy and Mirko himself, when he hasn’t, and probably never will, reach the levels of those four legends is spot on.

Yes, it doesn’t take a genius to realize Sonnon has a low IQ and hes only trying to generate hype/numbers for his fights by insulting legends in the sport.

And I love how retards like to post things like “Sonnon would destroy so and so in the octagon” with “so and so” referring to fighters who are considered legends in the sport. It’s like saying, “ya man, Brendan Shaub, would destroy Dan Severn in the octagon”….but then again, they’re the one’s who are drinking the Sonnen Kool-Aid

Sonnen is clearly intelligent. I mean disregarding the fact that it takes immense mental strength to reach that level (meaning that yes, nick diaz is actually mentally stronger than all of us, i know he slurs but deal with it you 9-5ing fuck). Chael is often overly pretentious and trying to make people look bad, and that’s hardly a sign of stupidity. If you changed Sonnen to ‘Koscheck’ on every line, but to me it just sounds like Cro Cop is trying to sound relevant after it turned out he was a TERRIBLE fighter. I’d be pissed too if i had such a name and then i realised i was being hand-fed opponents in pride and once i got to the big time i realised i was somewhere just above eddie sanchez in the rankings

Crocop wasn’t being sarcastic about being mad at Chael. He was being serious, otherwise he wouldnt be comparing his 8 month old son and Chael’s naivety. CroCop was completely contradicting him self. “Im not mad im not mad…but i’d like to whoop his ass.” Ok buddy….even with the weight difference Chael would fucking ass rape an over the hill CroCop.
