‘Rampage’ Says He’s Not Fighting in Japan and He’s Not Very Happy About the News

It looks like the proposed light heavyweight bout between Stephan Bonnar and Quinton Jackson won’t be happening at UFC 144 in Japan as we previously predicted.

According to “Rampage,” who was told last month by UFC president Dana White that he would be on the February 25 card, he will not be fighting at the Saitama Super Arena that day and he’s not very happy about the news.

Jackson Tweeted the following today:

Considering that the card has not been filled up yet, it’s likely that Jackson’s services are required for another event being planned for the same time. Our money is on the UFC on Fox 2  card whose co-main events White has said are being finalized today.

We’ll have to wait and see, but given Bonnar’s iron chin and his penchant for going toe-to-toe with every opponent he faces coupled with the the historic fight he put on with Forrest Griffin at the TUF 1 finale, there’s a good chance we could see him get his wish for a “dream fight” with Rampage on the televised two-fight portion of the card. That is unless the UFC wants to risk having another sub-60-second fight on Fox instead of a fan-friendly slugfest like Bonnar and Rampage are known for delivering.

I'm with Rampage on this. He is huge in Japan and would be excited for that fight, which is huge with Rampage. He needs a reason to fight these days and Japan would be a great reason. I almost hope they do Bonnar vs Griffin on FOX!!!

Yeah, the bald father promised him a fight in Japan but things in business (UFC is a business) deals and other things fall through. He complained about movie deals, fights, money you name it. p.s. More evidence that he'll be on UFC on FOX 2:
DW was going to get the contracts signed by the fighters today, and today Rampage announces his next fight isn't in Japan. Coincidence? Probably not.

I don't think he's out of line to be kinda mad about this. After putting on a great fight, he made a simple request, which if it was turned down was fine, but DW said "yeah... Fuck yeah!" and now he doesn't get it.

I have to agree that he's going to be on UFC on Fox 2. I guess he's too big a name to be a lower-card fight in Japan, so if they want him in a main event they needed to go to a different date.
