Steroids in MMA
Which MMA Fighter Will Test Positive For Steroids Next?

Randy Couture is a Dream and a Nightmare for Brandon Vera

(Props: TheRyanLoco via MMA Mania)

Good news for all us po’ folks: UFC 105 (November 14th; Manchester, England) will be broadcast via tape delay on Spike. In the main event, Randy Couture kicks off one last title run when he takes on light-heavyweight Brandon Vera, who has won his last two bouts against Mike Patt and Krzysztof Soszynski. According to Vera in the interview above, the prospect of fighting a living legend like Randy was the only thing that would make him want to fight in England so soon after his last fight. Couture was an early influence an him, and he describes the matchup as "an honor and a blessing and a punishment, all at the same time." Vera also says his underutilized wrestling is "retarded" (as in, retarded-awesome), though he’ll be standin’ and bangin’ as much as possible. Will the Truth finally silence the haters by conquering the 46-year-old Hall of Famer? Your predictions, please.

UFC 105′s current lineup is after the jump…

Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera (LHW)
Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy (WW)
Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang (MW)
James Wilks vs. Matt Brown (WW)
Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley (LW)

Terry Etim vs. Shannon Gugerty (LW)
Paul Taylor vs. John Hathaway (WW)
Nick Osipczak vs. Matt Riddle (WW)
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jared Hamman (LHW)
Andre Winner vs. Rolando Delgado (LW)

From now on, whatever Armfarmer says.........just assume that Smitty agrees with it. That'll save me some time from having to post shit.

What's with the Swick hate? He finishes most of his fights, and quickly.

Ouch That hurts- October 7, 2009 at 8:35 am
Gotta say this is a no-win for Vera. I'm very surprised he didn't hold out for a top tier '05er. He needs to break his trend of boring ass fights.
ArmFarmer- October 7, 2009 at 8:32 am

Swick demolished his last two opponents, both knock out or tko, one first round one second. What's boring about that? 8 out of 14 fights finished in the first round.. that's boring? Everyone has had at least a couple boring fights in their career, give the guy a break.

As for this main event.. garbage. Two fighters coming off of incredibly lack luster performances, one of which is past his prime and the other nobody gives a shit about to begin with. I have no interest whatsover in watching Brandon Vera fight at all let alone in a main event.

man it makes me sick that dana has even said that one of these two will fight GSP.
neither has done near enough to warrent a fight with GSP title or no title. they just have no one else. thiago alves just got the beat down stick, dana and joe silva are not gunna put fitch in there to have us pay for a wrestling match. so that leaves us with kos, condit, paul daley or matt huges(who CP has ranked#7WW, come on guys i give two shits what he did when the sport was a pubic hair of mixed skill sets)
it is a tough situation for the ufc brass. if GSP doen't feal comfortable doin a catchweight fight with somebody that can test his skills, then we have no choice.

GSP V THE OUTLAW? haahahah
GSP V QUICK? hahaah

haha, i had Walter Matthau's voice in my head when i read the name Gustaffson.
Mike Milbury- October 7, 2009 at 7:33 am
@LAS: No way, Dana would move that card to PPV even if it is a UK show. Too much money to be made.

Vera better have something more up his sleeve for Randy than he did for K-Sos, cause if K-Sos was able to hold him against the fence for half the fight, Randy's going to fucking ragdoll him.
GEE-yuh-TEEN- October 7, 2009 at 7:11 am
If Vera's wrestling is retarded, then Couture's wrestling is in a persistent vegetative state.
Perdew- October 7, 2009 at 6:54 am
why the hell are they still giving rolando delgado fights...he literally looked like a wiener in a cat fight in his TUF fights.
Badguy- October 7, 2009 at 6:52 am
Man I cant stand Swick.
All I can say is overated!
And his fights have been generally boring for some time now
Badguy- October 7, 2009 at 6:50 am
OMG you write some funny shit!

is bisping back on solid foods yet?
jimbonics- October 7, 2009 at 6:35 am
Swick (this could split or draw)
Bisping (so much to prove in his home country after 100)

Riddle (pretty sure I've never heard of the other guy)
Delgado (he's a baseball player, right?)

And good on Zuffa for not trying to charge 50 bucks again for something that had happened hours and hours earlier.

My prediction is an entertaining bout that goes to a decision, but I don't think it proves anything or silences Vera's haters. When all is said and done, Vera has a huge size advantage and is something like 15 years younger than Randy.

Randy's last good matchup was against Liddell at LHW, and the rest has been hype. The fact that Vera is even matched up against him says a lot about how derailed his quest for two simulteneous belts has become.

LAS- October 7, 2009 at 6:30 am
My prediction is that if Hardy beats Swick to get a title shot, they'll have to give that card away for free too.

Wait, what am I saying, I'm the dumbfuck who paid for Silva-Cote and Silva-Leites.
