Randy Couture Gets a New Mid-Life Crisis Tattoo

Judging from the typos in his Twitter update, he might have been drunk when it happened. But at least Randy didn’t get the name of some chick branded on his arm, which would have to be covered up by a half-assed tribal design in about six months. For the uneducated, "Ferrum Ferro Acuitur" is a Latin phrase meaning "iron sharpens iron." It’s a reference to Proverbs 27 ("…so one man sharpens another"), and when included in an MMA fighter’s tattoo, it basically means that if you surround yourself with strong people, you will become stronger yourself. As for the Fleur-de-Lis, it’s either a symbol of Couture’s French lineage, or a tribute to GSP’s calf.

I think naming his Gyms "Extreme Couture", was the first sign to me that Randy was beginning to get a little confused about his bracket in life.

I guess we'll just have to squint our eyes and look towards his chest and/or right shoulder area from now on.

No, he's definitely having a mid life crisis. The way he dresses, getting divorced 3 times, the types of girls they always show him with on tv. The tattoo is just making it worse. One of my all time favs, but he was more of a man I think when he had a come-over and wore spandex pants. At least that was believable.

Mid-Life Crisis = Getting a tattoo of a symbol associated with a younger, healthier, in-his-prime fighter. Though sadly Randy, I think the ladies can still 'andle your riddem'.

Interesting RC uses tabula rasa which is a philosophical argument that people are born without knowledge and learn things as they come. In practice it is meant to say that people never prejudge an idea and are a "blank slate" for knowledge.

Fleur de lis has become a huge fad lately. It started before the Saints won the super bowl, so I can't blame it on them. I lived in South Louisiana for 5 years and it wasn't this over-used when I lived there, but it's everywhere now.

The tat does look pretty sweet though.

Funny, he was on MMA Today a few weeks back and Kenny and Bas joked that he was unusual--"when are you going to get some ink, Randy?" Apparently being a "blank slate" was getting to him.
