(If you look at the changes in Thiago Silva’s body shape over the years, you do have to wonder…)
Could Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson settle their continuing feud with a formal rematch when Sugar’s knee is healthy again? Is Thiago Silva about to get busted for steroids? There’s a ton of conflicting information surrounding these related stories, so we’ll just pass along what we’ve heard…
- MMAWeekly was the first to report that UFC light-heavyweight contender Thiago Silva has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled match against Quinton Jackson at UFC 130 (May 28, Las Vegas). “Sources close to the bout” confirmed that Rashad Evans will be stepping in for the Pitbull — meaning that Evans’s first opponent since outpointing Quinton Jackson last May will be…Quinton Jackson, once again.
- However, Thiago Silva himself denied the report to Tatame, saying “I’m very healthy and looking forward to fight Rampage…Nobody called us about anything, the fight is on.” Quinton Jackson’s camp was also surprised by the report, and according to Rashad Evans’s manager, Evans hasn’t been offered the fight either.
At this point, you’d think maybe the UFC just changed their minds about Thiago vs. Rampage, and swapped the matchup with Rashad vs. Rampage 2 in light of Rashad’s recent availability and the personal rivalry between the two fighters. Well, it gets weirder…
- A follow-up report from MMA Junkie insists that Silva could be pulled from UFC 130. Though the reason for Silva’s potential withdrawal is still unknown, they’re floating a juice-y theory:
Of significant potential interest, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has yet to release the drug screens from the night of Silva’s most recent fight, a UFC 125 win over Brandon Vera that took place Jan. 1 in Las Vegas.
Nevada State Athletic Commision executive director Keith Kizer confirmed with MMAjunkie.com that the commission is still investigating at least one sample from the event. While Kizer could not confirm whether or not one of those samples belonged to Silva, the NSAC executive did confirm that Silva was among the UFC 125 fighters who submitted a pre-fight screen.
Uh-oh. As our steroid bust timeline could tell you, MMA fighters have occasionally turned to steroids to recover from injuries, and Silva’s nagging back problems have been well-documented. We’ll update you when we know more…

the kids good, going to be great....but are you fucking kidding me?
