Rashad Evans Staying Positive in the Face of Tragedy, Tells Jon Jones to ‘Go Get That Belt’

Rashad Evans‘s unexpected knee injury may be a career-altering nightmare scenario, but the former light-heavyweight champion is doing his best to put on a brave public face. After the bad news was dropped at UFC 126, Sugar posted the following on RashadEvans.tv:

"Hey my ppl! Last night most of u heard the news. If not here is the latest. I have 2 pull out of my Shogun fight because of injury. I severely sprained my MCL in practice. While in practice I got blindsided by another group of partners right into the side of my knee like football lineman style.. Since I’m hurt my teammate young phenom Bones Jones is gonna step in 4 me! I’m gonna recover & then see what happens next 4 me! Thank all u 4 the encouragement! I love my supports & my haters! Go get that belt brudda Jones!"


Shame on you, "another group of partners." You’re really going to chop-block your friend a month before his title fight? Am I really supposed to believe that those guys weren’t hired by Jon Jones to get Rashad out of the way, Kerrigan/Harding-style? (Please, bro. Follow the money.) Here’s hoping Evans can make a quick recovery so he can…I don’t know, fight Quinton Jackson again or something.

I don't see what the fucking problem is. We only have to wait 6 weeks to watch another Jones fight even if it's for the title. Guys are acting like he's getting Brock action here. Also, Shogun is getting just as little time to prepare for Jones as Jones is. The last recent example where that kinda thing backfired is Akiyama vs Leben although that's probably Akiyama having shit cardio and gameplan more than lack of specific preparation.

Bottom Line - Jones hasn't even been injured, not even been in trouble in a fight that I can think of. Dude's a fuckin' machine.

Meanwhile, Shogun is nursing his 2nd? 3rd? knee surgery. No disrespect to Shogun, but he's got nothin' that Jones can't handle. Nothin'.

And for the future, Jones isn't gonna hang out at 205 very long, maybe 1 or 2 fights after he gets the title. Jones will vacate the LHW Title and make room for his homie Rashad so he can actually have a career at 205. Then it's on to HW for Bones.

It's gonna happen that way... you'll see.

The truth is, it doesn't matter if he is totally deserving of the title shot. They had a fight fall apart six weeks out, and this is as good of a replacement as any. Who else would they slot in there? Maybe Rampage. Rampage vs. Shogun II would be a great fight. But Rampage is usually not in shape between fights, so I doubt he could accomdate. Jones was the best option, and it is a great option.

Plus, he is going to crush Shogun. Jones of 2011 is the new Shogun of 2005. He does crazy unorthodox things that nobody else would try, and just rolls through the competition. As long as he doesn't get into a straight kickboxing match with Shogun, he will take him down, and smash him with elbows.

Wow, I knew Jones' bandwagon was going to grow after his win over Bader, but I didn't think it would reach this level. Who has Jones faced that has the caliber of striking Shogun does? Brandon Vera is the closest - and Brandon Vera got destroyed by Thiago Silva, whom Shogun would beat. He also has very long limbs, making it easy to sub him, and no one has tested his submission defense yet...

There's no doubt this kid is good, but the UFC has been bringing him a long slowly -- Bader is a bit better than his other opponents, but he's the same style of fighter that Jones has been consistantly facing.

Shit, I'm not going to change anyone's mind who is already on Jones' hype wagon, however, I can't complain. Since Jones is a ridiculous -150 favorite, I'll be betting a good amount on Shogun. Expect Shogun to chop at his legs, and eventually take him down and get the TKO or Sub on the ground.

I think the obvious question is if shad and jones are so tight and train non stop together how did jones not know shad was injured.

It's good for the UFC.
I can't say i'm very fond of Jones getting a title shot like this and I wouldn't of been fond of Bader getting it either if he won the fight but it mixes things up so the next contender fights will be pretty epic.
I fully expect Rashad to rightfully insist on fighting Jones if he wins the title and for no one to have any issue with it.

I concur with the "quit yer bitchin" crowd. He's dismantled everybody he's faced, I want to see him fight the 'top guys' in 205 and him holding the belt is the best way for that to happen. At least he's more deserving than Lesnar.

Shogun lost to FORREST GRIFFIN. Did everyone forget so soon? Shogun was coming off an injury for that fight and didn't look so great granted... but he's coming off another injury. What makes anyone think Shogun gonna come out like some beast? Jones breezes through Shogun... Jones wins via TKO stoppage.

I don't think jones should be getting a title shot so quickly as he hasn't really beaten any top guys and all he's really proven is he can dismantle some of the best wrestlers but i guess they made the decision based on what they had available on short notice. I think the thiago silva vs Rampage fight is a good choice.
