UFC Still Raining on Couture’s Fantasy-World

Quote of the week, from Randy Couture via the Houston Chronicle:

“We got an official offer from M-1 to the UFC to do a co-promotion for the Couture-Emelianenko fight, and they (UFC) rejected that offer. Really, the only thing standing in the way for that fight right now is Dana and the UFC. Obviously, M-1 is happy to do a co-promotion like that. It only serves to help them. I think the UFC is looking at it the other way, and it’s like why do we want to help out another organization? The fans want to see that fight. At some point, you have to put that first.”

So, to clarify, this UFC/M-1 co-promotion is not just some hypothetical situation imagined by Randy Couture that would benefit both organizations financially and thrill MMA fans all over the world — it was officially proposed by M-1, and the UFC turned it down. A kick in the nuts for sure, but I can respect the fact that the UFC doesn’t want to set a precedent by bending over backwards every time one of their stars exerts some pressure. A contract is a contract — and in Dana White’s world, a contract is a contract is a mothafuckin’ contract. So when Couture says “the only thing standing in the way for that fight right now is Dana and the UFC,” he really means “the only thing standing in the way for that fight is the last remaining match on my contract, after which I’d be able to fight whoever and whenever I want, but fuck that shit bro I want to do this Fedor thing RIGHT NOW!” Ah, poor simple Randy — how I wish I could live in your world, where children are treated fairly and contracts are as fleeting as the wind…

dana white is a piece of crap....that's my personal opinion, but a contract is a contract, and that's all there is to it..I wish the MMA fighters got paid more money, hell, it looks like they are doing good in the UFC, too bad they get paid chump change....except for the Iceman that is....that guy is cleaning up.

There are so many people hanging on Dana's nuts. He's not some fairy godmother that swooped in and made the world of MMA what it is. He's a business man, and the thing with business men, as well as smart business men, is there are hundreds of them. Dana isn't special, if it wasn't him it would some other jackass doing it.

While Dana flies around the world, goes to meetings and gets fat doing it, these fighter get broken bones, ligaments, scars and everything else. Just so that they can a paid, what Dana sees in one week. He is a pimp, and the sad thing is fighters are lining up to get pimped by him.

Would the fight really be that interesting anyway? First of all I want to say that I also agree, if Dana White gives way to Randy, it would set a tone that the UFC does not want to set. NOW, Would the fight be in a cage or a ring? Fedor has proven time and time again that wrestlers aren't his best competition. Randy 3 years ago might have made the fight interesting in the cage. In the ring, Randy wouldn't stand a chance in my opinion. The fight will happen eventually, it will be in a cage, and Randy will lose a decision.

I agree with seth and Cp here....think about it, of course an organization like M-1 is willing to try whatever they can to get something going with the UFC....I wouldn't take the deal either....if Fedor wanted to be in the UFC and fight for a UFC championship he could have signed with the UFC, but like Randy he wants it on his terms, so go fight in some smaller venue and hopefully when you look back after five years and the UFC is going stronger than ever you won't regret these stupid decisions your making right now....I mean at least have the class to finish out your last fight on your contract, then go see if the grass is greener on the other side.

A rare anti-Randy sentiment in the blogosphere...thumbs up for taking a stand. The UFC seems to treat a lot of their fighters like crap, but you're right, they sign contracts to perform. That's how it goes. I wish Couture had taken the fight with Big Nog, knocked him and his contract off and then went for Fedor.

Too much drama these days.
