The Reem Earns Place in Guinness Book With K-1 Dynamite!! Win Over Duffee

(Overeem sporting his belts clockwise in order of importance.)

Alistair Overeem earned more than the uber paycheck and the interim DREAM heavyweight belt in Japan at the K-1 Dynamite!! 2010 New Year’s Eve event. The DREAM, Strikeforce and K-1 Open Weight Grand Prix champion also secured a spot in the Guinness Book of World Record as the only fighter to consecutively hold three championship belts.

If it’s any consolation to Todd Duffee, who reportedly made $60,000 for the 19-second pounding he took from "The Demolition Man," his name will also be inscribed in the tome as the fighter who Overeem beat to set the record. At least there’s that.

Backstage after the fight Duffee (6-2) asked the dominant Dutch fighter to commit to a rematch if he built up his record and got some experience.

Good one rwilsonr. did anyone else notice the blood on his knee in pic three
RwilsonR- January 2, 2011 at 1:20 am
What danomite said.

A more impressive trifecta would be if Overeem could simultaneously pass blood, urine, and hormone tests.

I agree that it's not Reem's fault. I'm just saying that this three-belt thing comes with a giant asterisk. It's not the feat they make it out to be, regardless of whose fault it is that it's not the result of real deserving fights.

Overeem's girlfriend is gorgeous. Overeem has to be doing all these groupies and other bad stuff behind her back so if anybody has her phone number I could have some use for that. I'd have to run all my life away from Overeem for that but still....damn.
danomite- January 1, 2011 at 2:29 pm
Shifty-eyed dog pretty much sums it up. I hate to keep sounding like I'm hating on the Reem, because he seems like a nice guy and I like watching him fight, but the god-damned praise lavished on this guy for what he's done is ridiculous. I mean, is this a real Guiness record or did he bully the Guiness guys into giving it to him like he did with the Dream belt? Boxers hold three or more belts all time, so I'm guessing this refers only to MMA, but one of those belts isn't even for MMA. I'm sure if you look hard enough there's some guy somewhere who holds belts in Aruba Fighting Championships, Kentucky Fighting Challenge, and Rumble on the Rock all at the same time.

It's not easy to gather 3 belts, the K1 belt is legit and a feat to win. I can only think of a handful of guys in MMA who could complete at that level. Strikeforce is messed up and they have trouble getting there heavy weights to fight. But I don't really see that if guys are ducking him that it's his fault. He has been trying to get fedor and werdum to fight for while. The guy needs to make a living in the meantime so he has to fight in other organisations. This shows the problems with strikeforce and not oveream.

Like any other mma fan I would like to see him fight some guys not coming off loses and maybe clean up strikeforce heavy weight division before moving into the UFC.
Shifty-Eyed Dog- January 1, 2011 at 1:25 pm
Wow, that record is MEANINGLESS.

It's pretty easy to gather 3 belts when you:

a) fight for an organization so messed-up and desperate to keep you they allow you to do whatever you want and fight in OTHER organizations as long as you promise to come back,
b) rarely actually fight to defend your belt from that organization,
c) bully an organization into CREATING a belt for your fight, despite the opponent being a last-last-minute replacement, and
d) are fighting in second-rate organizations against pushover opponents

I'd say at least one of those knees landed. Duffee's eye looks a bit blue in the second pic.hxxp://
slummy- January 1, 2011 at 1:06 pm
Yea it was definitely set up. Most people laugh when they get hit cleanly from Overeem. Duffee's chin proved its worth again Russow.
ytrebil- January 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm
Anyone think the fight was a set up? It looked like Duffee took a dive. That's never a KO punch - plus he was fine very quickly after.

Jus' sayin'...
Mike Russell- January 1, 2011 at 12:30 pm
He can vacate the belt if he chooses not to re-sign. Jake Shields did.I'm not fucking with you. Bas never BCCs his contacts and the first two names on the list were Lorenzo and Joe Silva.BTW, Coker doesn't seem too impressed...hxxp://
RearNakedSpoon- January 1, 2011 at 12:25 pm
They could lend JDS out to fight ubereem while he waits for Cain ;)
vengful1- January 1, 2011 at 11:57 am
Remember that one time when he defended his SF belt? That was awesome.
newdeal- January 1, 2011 at 11:37 am
Strikeforce really needs to setup some fights for overeem so he isn't continueally forced to fight in Japan just to make a living.
rlh61- January 1, 2011 at 11:30 am
Oh, aren't just fucking with us to kick off the new year, are you??
DazedNConfused- January 1, 2011 at 11:30 am
Isn't there that clause in the Strikeforce contract that you can't leave while you're champion? Atleast that's what I was hearing.

If that's true it sounds awesome. He can fight Fedor and Werdum and get the fuck out of there. That's all I need to see. Then he can head to the UFC and make it for next years November/December show.
Mike Russell- January 1, 2011 at 11:24 am
An interesting note:Bas Boon also sent these videos and photos to Lorenzo Fertitta and Joe Silva. From what I hear, Overeem is planning on finishing up his last two contracted SF bouts and then we'll see him in the UFC.
NinjaVanish- January 1, 2011 at 11:07 am
Beating on inexperienced cans in Japan is definatley a better route to glory than fighting the legit competition in either the UFC or Strikeforce (Which he holds the HW belt and has only defended once in three years.)

Smitty- January 1, 2011 at 10:56 am
I believe this dude is definately one of the top 5 pound for pound best in the world. He is such a monster, and is lookin better and better all the time. I only wish he could fight the other big name heavyweights out there to show once and for all, who is the best. Junior, Cain, Fedor, and Big Foot. What cha think?
DangadaDang- January 1, 2011 at 10:55 am
Well GrossIdiot, you surely live up to your name. No one can ever say that you didn't.

I also dig that they play Lisa Gerrard for victory walkouts. Very classy.
DazedNConfused- January 1, 2011 at 10:52 am
I don't know if the dream belt should really count? But either way goodjob Overeem, that was a wicked knockout. He's definitely in the best shape of his life. Hope he can keep it going.
