According to new reports on Heavy and f4wonline, early estimates indicate that Saturday’s "Aldo vs. Faber" event generated between 150,000 and 200,000 buys. In other words (assuming the estimates are accurate), the WEC’s first attempt at pay-per-view was a smashing success. A couple points to put those numbers in perspective:
— 150k-200k is not too far off from the 240,000 buys that UFC 110 pulled in, with its roster full of MMA stars.
— Affliction did no more than 100,000 buys with its first event.
As a starting point for WEC-product on pay-per-view, it’s very encouraging, and proves that Zuffa knows how to promote and package their fights. Now that fans know the WEC is worth their money, Zuffa is in an even better position for the next time they want to charge us. Of course, the lineup has to be just as compelling as "Aldo vs. Faber"’s. At this point, what could the WEC offer to make you shell out another $45? Urijah Faber vs. Miguel Torres as a co-headliner seems like a no-brainer to me…

I for one salute the little guys and their great effort on Saturday. I don't think there's been a better event this year. I would probably have been willing to pay for most of the WEC cards that have been free on Versus, because I have yet to see a bad event from them. Sure, not every single fight is as insane as the zombie's was, but I don't think there's another organisation that has a higher proportion of good/great fights in each event than the WEC.
Wouldn't have hurt them to mention the name once or twice during the show mind you. I fit it in 3 times in just those two paragraphs. Bruce almost called it wrong during the first fight when he said "scheduled for three rounds in the U... Lightweight division". Let the people know Zuffa.
I wonder what you call a slobber-knocker with midgets...
I think they can do a PPV every 2-3 months and have very compelling matchups.
I hope this will raise the WEC pay grades as well.
Henderson v. Roller
Faber v. Torres
Jorgensen v. Benavidez
Cerrone v. Njokuani II
Garcia v. Jung II
Bowles v. Page
Might be the best PPV card they could put together without blowing their load on one card. Maybe they could do something like this for WEC 50 and hold guys like Varner, Brown, Cruz, Grispi, McCullough etc for 51
IMO Faber MUST be on every PPV for WEC in order for it to get decent buys and his stock is dropping. Jose Aldo is a destroyer but he was not exciting and any casual fan that ordered wont be rushing off to see him again any time soon..
