Report: Batista Signs With Strikeforce; Opponent and Date of Debut Set to Be Announced

According to former WWE heavyweight champion, Dave Batista, he has signed a contract with Strikeforce and his opponent and the date of his debut should be announced shortly.

In the above interview with TMZ, the retired pro wrestler answered the interviewer’s query of "So are you going on to the UFC or what? What’s going on with that?" with a word, "Strikeforce." When questioned further about who he will face in his debut for the promotion, the 41-year-old replied,"You’ll see. I know, but I’m not telling you."


What he did say is that he isn’t stupid and that he doesn’t want to be retired by his first opponent. 

"Not Fedor. I don’t want nothin’ to do with that dude."

I’m thinking it will be a "rematch" with Bobby Lashley.

*Update: According to MMAMania, Strikeforce reps say the story is bullshit, so either Batista is a bit confused, or the promotion wants to announce the news itself.

His kicks look rough, he's not rotating his leading foot at all, not putting his body into it. Also his his arms/shoulders are down when boxing. I don't really see a lot of skill, but his natural ability and size is amazing. Anything he can't do he can learn. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight. I don't see why people always bitch about athletes transitioning to mma. I think it's interesting to see how some of these giants from say football, wrestling etc, do in an actual mma fight. But hey, that's just me. I just enjoy fights.

Yep, all makes complete sense, injury ridled fake fighting career is the logical lead in to an MMA career, 41 years old, history of PED abuse, the guys above me have summed it up, especially dangadang, gigacock, Viva Hate.
This has got to be bullshit, fer fucks sake what next?

I thought it was really classy after the last Strikeforce at the post fight press conference where Coker was sitting at the podium sweaty and out of breath with his tie undone and his shirt half-way unbuttoned (One button, Scott. One button!). He looked like he had just hiked a half hour through thick Cambodian jungle to negotiate purchasing all females under fourteen from some random mountain village with the express purpose of selling them into international sex slavery.

Strikeforce is setting up a fight between Batista and the Gobbledy Gooker. Winner will get a fight with Fedor. M-1 Global will most likely only accept a fight with the Gooker though.

He looks a hell of a lot faster than Pud that's for sure. Less muscle so he will not turn purple as fast. The clips I watched said it was for cancer. I do not recall him saying he was going career. I apologize if I am wrong and missed that. If it is just for a good cause than I am all for it. I can't find any record of his first fight like some people are saying. Was it an exhibition a while back?

This guy probably spent more time injured with the WWE than actually wrestling. He was out with a tricep tear at least twice, torn hamstring, muscle tear in his back and a torn bicep. There is a good chance that his limbs will go flying if he's punched hard enough.

Batista is a big boy, he was training at my gym for a while and I am 6'1" 280 and he made me look small. I have a hard time believing he can make 265. And 41 is a little old to be getting into the MMA game, but more power to him.

I think JZ got it right. Only thing missing is a covered wagon selling miracle elixir in front of the tent. I believe PT Barnum (sp?) said it best when he said there's a sucker born every minute. The sad truth is that there are more than a few people (wouldn't call them MMA fans) who would shell out quite a bit to watch the freaks pick up triangular weights and circle each other while rolling their fists in slow circles, knuckles out, palms in. Handlebar mustaches are optional, though encouraged.

After reading the article I'm not sure what to think. Like what the hell just happened there?? No way I was gonna watch all three attached videos, so I busted a "Eenie, meenie, miny, mo" and landed on the bottom vid..

Then it became clear to me. He's training for "Karate Kid: The Golden Years" or some shit. Straight to DVD, Playa.
